Generally speaking the average high is 70deg (for Oct) but this has also been a rather cool year for us. Berkeley and SF are already seeing highs in the low 70s (on average) and we just got into September. Who knows though. The weather here has been very kooky indeed. Most of my nature preserves are up by 6" to 10" of precipitation compared to the last 3 years. I love El Niño and PDO years. lol

October 9th is some of the best weather Richmond gets
    RICHMOND, CALIFORNIA - Climate Summary

72 is about right for average high and also about the sunniest time of the year for Richmond.

It's just past the peak of the Bay Area Indian Summer and within a degree or 2 of warmest time of the year for Richmond. Average high is still only about 72F though with an average low of 54F.

Absolute records for Richmond for October are 100F and 41F

Like F8L said this has been a cooler, wetter than average year for us in Northern California, and remember, weather is spelled a lot like whether.

Why are you guys staying in Richmond again? If you and I are thinking of the same Richmond, you know that it's one of the most gangster dangerous cities in CA right? Famous for the movie 'Coach Cooper'....

As a visitor, all my visits to Richmond have been pleasant ones. I have spent weeks staying in hotels, taking public transportation including BART and Richmond buses, talking to people on the streets and asking questions, walking around the parks (Like George Miller Jr. Shoreline), driving the streets planning the MPG Challenge, eating at restaurants, and visiting fun local attractions like the 10,000 sq ft toy train museum and newly opened public pool. It has been a real eye-opener and is in stark contrast to the gloom and doom, gangster stories that I hear from others. Does the city have challenged areas. Sure. But that isn't where we plan on spending time.

The Craneway is an incredible facility. A totally green renovated industrial building. Floor-to-ceiling glass facing the bay (www.Craneway.com). It's a building most people in the Bay Area haven't even heard of... but they will. It even has a megawatt of solar on the roof.

As far as the hotel. I have personally checked out the hotel including staying at the hotel, driving and walking around the streets near it at night to be sure it met my standards of cleanliness, safety, etc since I will have my family with me including my wife and young sons.

Now if people choose to hang around in bad sections of town at night looking for trouble, I can guarantee they will find it. But I don't think any of our group will be doing that.

Macmaster, since you live in the Bay Area, I encourage you to check out the Craneway when you get time. Have lunch at their restaurant, The BoilerHouse. Heck, if you want to tour the actual facility to see the exhibit hall, that can be arranged too. And once we announce the hotel, you should stop up and check that out. As a visitor to the city, I have enjoyed myself. I think you will have your perceptions of Richmond changed.

I'm glad to hear you've had enjoyable visits while staying in Richmond. But what I'm trying to say is though, why stay there when the rest of the Bay Area has so much to offer? Why limit yourself to one area? San Francisco or the South Bay would be a much more enjoyable place to stay and visit. Cleaner, safer, etc. You may not notice the difference between these places and Richmond because you haven't stayed here long enough, or everything looks clean on the outside. But there's an intangible difference. Sure San Francisco is more expensive but you're only staying for a few days so it won't hurt your wallet by that much more.

Choosing to stay at Richmond over any other city in the Bay Area is like eating can of chicken at a 5 star restaurant. It's alright, might taste good, but you're missing out on a sea of cuisine.

Theres nothing in it for me here. I just want you guys to have a great experience.

There isn't an official public list. So often it's hard to tell if people want me to publicly share that they are coming or not. That's why I watch for threads like this one on PriusChat.

If you are on facebook you can respond that you are coming and post a comment:
    Welcome to Facebook

    Good thought. Thank you.
I thought you wanted the couch? He's not exactly "in the area". It's at least an hour's drive, probably more.

Definitely more. :) But it is free and we can always visit one of my nature preserves the day before or after. Although if enough people are staying at the hotel with Eric then I suggest we hang out there for awhile while the bar is open. ;)

As for the pool... I have one at my apartment and it should be 10deg warmer over here than in Richmond.

O.k. guys.. the website has been updated.

You will now find information about:
    - VIP registration - $25. This includes everything listed on the "Become a VIP" page and gives you the ability to show off your car in the showcase, plus lots of other activities throughout the weekend. Participate in as many, or as few of them as you like.

    - Offical Hotel - Richmond/Berkeley Marriott. 6 miles from the venue. Room rate of $109. (Full price is usually $129 or more for this weekend.) This is where we'll hang out have an informal "Eat & Greet" dinner on Friday. On Saturday we'll come back after dinner for more VIP-only activities. And on Sunday morning we'll provide some VIP-only sessions here.

    - MPG Challenge - Starts on Friday at 12:30. Who will be the first winner of the Green Drive Expo Bay Area MPG Challenge?

Rae Vynn, unfortunately, you'll find I've become rather camera-shy. Plus remember, my kids will be there!

If you have enough antifreeze in ya ... it won't really matter
    ;)

    Meah . . . compton, oakland stockton & L.A. are no worse
    :p
Besides . . . we're a tough lot. After all, Toyota put us up in Detroit last year. Now THAT's dangerous! Ah yes Detroit ... I miss the freezing cold and sounds of automatic wepons being discharged into the night sky. don't worry .. I'll hold your hand.
    ;)
