I think the lack of Prius on the road in Australia compared to the USA is that there have never been any subsidies for people to buy fuel efficient vehicles or "green vehicles" in Australia. No tax incentives, nothing. Government departments get them to lower fleet emissions to meet government imposed limits and some private companies like to project a green image. There is no reason but saving fuel, keeping at the bleeding edge of automotive technology and personal feel good reasons for people in Australia to drive Prius.

Could be...... I got mine when my last clunker died because my parents were so happy with theirs, and (I'll admit) because I wanted to contribute a bit less to the ills of the future......with my record of car ownership, I've got some serious penance to pay!

But really - I've had more fun driving my 09 Prius than I've ever had driving any previous car, so who needs a subsidy?

Doing sporty things with a Prius might really sell the product - never mind how bad the bushfire season is this year.

That sort of competition is fun. I have done SCCA parking lot stuff in the past but not with a Prius.

That looks like a nice little stroll for a Prius and nothing strenuous or warranty voiding. The road up to my Mom's house is that x2 at least. How about that hill climb across the Ohio River at Wheeling, WV. I do that at 74 MPH. And that is only part of one highway I use to my Mom's. Last trip to there I got 53 MPG average for the 275 mile trip in 5 hours.

As I said earlier Bob, it was a total of 4 and a half minutes and not all of that is with the pedal to the metal. And if you look at the bottom of my every post you can see my opinion of the Toyota's need for a warranty.

Did you know it would be so much fun before you drove a Prius? Australians have some misconception that Prius is a slow small electric car that they just don't understand so they just wont look at them.

Not sure I understand the bushfire comment?

Not at all.......I thought it would be much clunkier and more sluggish than it is.

All I meant about the bushfires is that I find them (or at least their unprecedented scope and intensity) and the long term drought that gave rise to them to be a rather terrifying turn of events in the climate change department. (I suspects that residents of Central and Northern Victoria -in particular - agree).

It's nice to advocate driving a Prius on account of it being a good car generally rather than just something that has to be done out of dire necessity for fear of the consequences of climate change.

That is why I like to play with my Prius at events like this, it shows people that Prius isn't the sluggish old persons car they might have thought it was.

OK, I follow now. Bushfires have been a feature of the Australian landscape for eons and drought and flood likewise. I can't see that our releasing huge quanitities of stored carbon back into the atmosphere is a good thing and I believe it is changing the environment, it has to. But I doubt many people would equate bushfires and climate change in Australia. There were good growing conditions before the drought for the fuel load to generate, and there are always droughts, it is part of the cycle. Right now we are experiencing a wet period, very wet in the Southeast part of the country, so running on short term memory people will forget soon about drought and forget all the measures we took to get through it so in a few years when the next drought hits we have to re-learn everything again.
