I'm considering trading up to a 2010 Prius and was wondering if anyone knows if the passenger seat will fold forward to a flat position. Also I really like the look of the 17 inch wheels but don't think I need a Prius V. I was thinking I could use the original 15 inch wheels for winter snow tires and purchase the 17 inch wheels at a later date and use them the rest of the year. My question is if the 17 inch wheels will fit either a III or IV, as in do they have the same bolt pattern and will I have any clearance problems? I understand that the ride quality and mileage will suffer a bit with the 17 in wheels but I just can't get by how nice the look. Thanks, Rick

The passenger seat does not fold flat. Several folks here have upgraded to 17" wheels with no problems. Personally, I'm considering some aftermarket 16" wheels just so I don't loose too much in comfort and mpg... There are some really lightweight 16" wheel available through TireRack.com. They weigh less than the OEM 15" wheels, so you'd think you'd see an increase in mpg...

Great. I'm glad to hear I will be able to change the wheels and give the car the look I want. Too bad Toyota didn't add that fold down seat. I had that in an old PT Cruiser years ago. Believe it or not that seat came in handy a few times. One of the few fond memories I have of that car is when I had to move an 8 foot step ladder. After putting the back seat down and laying the front seat flat I could actually get it in that car and close the rear hatch. Thanks for the info. Rick

    Rick,

If it helps, on the Prius, you can lay down the rear seat. Then, push the front passenger seat all the way forward, take off the head rest and lay the seat back. It will "almost" lay flat. The reason for taking off the headrest is that it doesn't lay completely flat, so the headrest gets in the way.

The 17's will probably work fine. Though, I thought I remembered hearing that the V's with 17 inch wheels had a beefier steering actuator, if that's of concern to you.
