I don't have the V, but like you I do like the look! I have read here that ride is a bit stiffer with the 17s and the turning circle is not as tight as with the II-IV models. I have not seen any indication there is any difference in mileage. I am considering splitting the difference and going with a light weight aftermarket 16" rim with a good low rolling resistance tire in a size that will have more side wall than the 17s and a width that's about the same as the 15s. This should drastically improve the looks without much sacrifice in ride comfort and no negative impact on my current mileage.

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade for The Larger Rims/Tires?

Ditto. I like the look of it, but the packages are different in Canada, so if I want the Tech Pack, I had to get the 15" alloys (cause we get the solar roof w/ the AT).

Officially, it's 1-3mpg but frankly, changing your driving style can make up the 1-3 mpg difference.

Since you need to do a lot of driving, put winters on the 15's and get nice lite weight 17's for the summer :D

Re: Is It Worth The Upgrade for The Larger Rims/Tires?

1 People buy the V want the LED headlight and the Advanced Technology Package. Both of those options are nearly impossible to add afterwards. If LED headlights or DRCC, PCS, LKA, IPS are not important to you then save your money and buy a lower trim and upgrade the rims/tires later.

2 The V can handle corners better. As for gas mileage goes, I'm constantly getting 55+mpg in the city on the display. If there's a difference between 15" rims and 17" rims it might be 1mpg or less. It is well worth the cornering ability.

    Thanks for the input.

Naturally, I was told by one dealer that you couldn't get 17" aftermarket...

Another desperate sales tactic to get you into buying a V. You should leave and tell him that since he doesn't know the product he's selling, you're not going to buy from him. I was told by one salesman that the Prius that I was quoted from another dealer had an old MSRP. He told me that it has been sitting in the lot for a long time and that it had rusted and it's old. I asked him so that what he's telling me is that any Prius will rust after being parked for a few months? Then I told him since you don't know anything about cars or the Prius for that matter, I'm not going to buy from you. Then I walked out.

    Thank you everyone.

It bugs the hell out of me that there are STILL salespeople in this day & age, that try and BS you.

Heck, I'M a Sales Rep. too, and I go to market by telling the truth, and educating the customer on what they should be asking about and buying, according to what their actual needs are.

Then again, I'm a PROFESSIONAL Sales Rep. in the HVAC industry that actually ENJOYS what he does, and I'm NOT some chump that's just working because he HAS to!!! ;)

Would someone also please refresh my memory, and tell me what these "features" are?
    DRCC, PCS, LKA, IPS

    Thanks Again,
    Ben

What's your line, not that I buy anything I am airbalancer:D

I have now load everything in car instead of the truck, just need to find some roof racks to carry a 8ft ladder
If only the Prius hatch was 2 inches high i could get the little gaint ladder in

Jobs that would cost me $60 in gas is now down to $15:D

DRCC - Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
When activated, it uses a forward facing radar to detect metallic objects (e.g. vehicles) ahead of you and maintain the preset distance (short, medium or long) that the driver has set. As the car approaches the vehicle ahead or a vehicle merges into your lane, the car will adjust its speed to maintain the preset distance. Once the vehicle ahead speeds up or moves out of your lane, your Prius will then accelerate back up to your preset cruising speed

    PCS - Pre-Collision System
This is Toyota's basic pre-collision system (more advanced ones are available on Lexus models). This is system uses a forward-facing radar to detect rapidly approaching objects. If the computer senses that you are approaching an object at a rapid pace, it will warn you with a "BRAKE!" message on the multi-information display. It can also tighten the front seatbelts in anticipation and it will prime the brake pads and Brake Assist for action. If the driver fails to take action, the car will apply the brakes up to a certain threshold (as determined by Toyota) to bring the Prius down to a slower speed. It will not completely avoid the collision but it will minimise the impact speed, and thus hopefully minimise the amount of damage.

    LKA - Lane Keep Assist
This feature uses a forward-facing camera to scan for road lines to assist the driver in keeping inside the lane. It will lightly tug the steering wheel to correct the path of the vehicle if it senses that the vehicle is drifting over to the next lane. Below 50mph, LKA acts as a lane-departure warning system in which it will sound a warning if it senses that you're drifting over to the next lane without activating the indicators. LKA has to be set manually via the LKA button on the steering wheel.

IPA - Intelligent Parking Assist (also known as Advanced Parking Guidance System or APGS)
This system assists the driver when parking the vehicle. It will do stall and parallel parking on both sides of the car. There are two methods to activate it but in general, a box will be set over the parking space in the rearview monitor. A green box signifies that the system is ok with the position of the box and that it will park the car there. The green box is approximately the size of the car. Once ok'd, take your hands of the steering wheel and slowly release the brake. The system will cancel if the accelerator is depressed or if the speed is too fast (it will warn you first before cancelling). The car will then steer itself into the parking spot and notify you when the system has completed its task. Correct positioning of the car prior to parking will result in a faster setup and ultimately faster parking.

Those are Advanced Technology package only offered in trim V.

DRCC - Dynamic Radar Cruise Control - You set the cruise speed. It brakes and accelerates according to traffic, up to your set speed and down to 25mph. It has an adjustable following distance. It will go into panic braking for you if you fail to apply brakes when coming up to a blind traffic jam. The deactivation speed is 25mpg with approximately 50-75 feet of distance between you and the car in front of you. This give you enough room to brake the rest of 25mph. If you fail to brake again the PCS - Pre Collision System takes over and again full brake down to 7-15mph before you rear end the car in front of you. It doesn't work very well and have unintended acceleration and braking ONLY during moderate curve. Slight curve is OK. Straight or fairly straight is excellent.

PCS - Pre Collision System see

These features are only available on trim V which also come standard with 17" rims and tires, fog lights and LED headlights.
The Advanced Technology Package also includes a navigation system and a back up camera.
Trim V is not available with the solar package.

Actually now that I've seen the videos again, I've got a request for the video creators. What if you combined human intervention with PCS?

IOW, what if you didn't brake until the PCS started beeping at you and then you braked. Would you still hit the boxes or would it be too late?

OK first, thanks again for all of your help. :)
Now that I have a little time on my hands, I'm ready to pull the trigger on my new Prius.

Below I listed all of the options I'd like, and what the TMV website says.
Where do you think I should start?
Should I just tell them I'd only go as high as $27,000, or should I start out even lower than that???

Any further input will be appreciated.

    Thanks Again,
    BigBen

So that brings the TMV info. to:
    $28,993 $26,641 [IMG] $26,767 [IMG]

Sounds good Cproaudio, IF they'll go for $25,000 here on Long Island.
Seems we pay higher for some things than a lot of other folks.

If I remember correctly, XM also is standard on a IV, correct???

    Thx,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,

As you know I paid $800 under invoice for my Prius IV on July 25th. I received 0% interest for 3 years and received the 2yr maintenance plan. This was almost two months ago. There is no reason to believe you can't do just as good if not better. As I PM'd you, I bought from Sunrise Toyota in Oakdale.
