    This is related to the polls where American favor raising average fuel economy standards to really high levels (vs. current levels) but yet aren't particularly willing to change their own habits nor buy vehicles that already exceed that proposed standard.

    I like small cars. I hate driving boat-sized american sedans - but then I'm not your average obese American that pretty much needs an SUV to make them not look MASSIVE.

    But which came first? The big car or the big American? Did one cause the other? Would getting rid of the big car result in smaller waistbands?
