Opinions Needed: 6000k or 3000k HID fogs?

In the beginning I wanted 3000k for the JDM/Function look but after seeing 6000k low beam and fog lights off my friend's non-prius car, I sorta like the look.

My sister's car is silver if that helps and has the factory bi-xenon(6000k) low beams.

So....the hybrid look or the JDM look? Any helpful input is nice!

I've had many HID kits in the past decade (4300k, 5000k, 6000k, 8000k) and have seen the 3000k installed in my cars. Personally, 6000k was the best looking choice for me. Why? The white looked WHITE on the ground, not blue or purple (like the 10000k - 14000k stuff). Sure, 4300k is brighter in lumens (and technically 3000k is even brighter) but it still gives off a slightly yellowish look to the ground, the output on the ground doesn't give the "wow HID" factor.

I had 6000K fogs and 6000k low beams on my 330ci and it was awesome. Super bright and didn't melt neither housings. Make sure you go for the 35watt kit...the 55watts are notorious for either melting housings and/or having a higher failure rate (for both bulb and ballasts).

Having said all that above, on my Prius I went for 5000k. Why? I'm actually starting to care about brightness and 5000k is a compromise between the brightest kit (4300K) and the look that I really like (6000k). 5000k is slightly more on the yellowish than whiteish side if it makes any sense.

6k for "I like blue lights!" looks, 3k for effectiveness (and the JDM/Function/"euro" look).

The best looking AND most effective setup is to go with 3000K FOGS and 6000K headlights, IMO.

Yellow cuts through the fog more, whereas white is reflected off of the fog more.

FYI, 5000K is pure white. 6000K is white with a tiny hint little bit of blue.

I always wondered if the front turn signal would be visible from over 300ft IF you have HID's on the fogs. The proximity of each housing plus the higher output of the fogs might overtake the signal visibility from far away...but I'm still thinking of doing it.

I debated that one myself for a long time. I like the hyper white color temp of the 6000K HID headlights, and I'm sure 6000K would have worked wonderfully for driving lights. For them to function effectively as true fog lights, 3000K would be the better choice. Seeing that you live in the SF Bay Area and are prone to heavy fog, the 3000K bulbs would provide better illumination. Plus, it is more of a JDM look.
If you care more about high-end Euro style hyper white driving lights, then go with the 6000Ks. It's a matter of personal preference...

Nice pics, HI MPG. I have to agree with you... just noticed that he was in SF. 3000k HID fogs + 5000 or 6000k HID low beams. Keep the high-beams stock.

nah, change the hi-beams to putco's nitro blue 9005 bulbs. Has 6000k output while maintaining the speed of halogen

thread resurrection! I didnt even remember i posted here, i was gonna say the same thing i said 3 months ago! LOL.

Now, I recently saw a Lexus IS F with matching bright blue/white fogs and headlights. It's the only car I've seen with this match that actually looks "right," because the spacing of the fog lights is wider than the headlights. For the Prius, the spacing for the fogs are narrower than the headlights, so I prefer the more aggressive hyper yellow.

I believe the Gen III foglights are spaced out wider than the headlights also..

You should ignore all comments about the usefulness of one color temperature or the other. The stock fogs are not capable of being useful except as DRLs. Get the color you like, 'cause you'll never be able to actually use them for driving in fog anyhow.

If you want to see a 6000k Hid low, 6000k Halogen 3000k Hid fog lows, philips silver vision turning lights, and LED 6000k Parking lights I should be getting all the packages on monday. I'll be done with installation probably by Thursday. If you're willing to wait i'll take pictures of it to show you how it looks.

What good do the 6000k LED parking lights do? Aren't they behind orange reflectors?

excuse my bad terminology. I thought parking lights were the stock W5W bulbs above the hi beams and low beams on the Gen III prius. What do you call that light? I don't think its a day time running light cause it doesn't turn on automatically?

    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-parking-lights-rear-license-plate-bulbs.html

If you go there and scroll down, Stream calls those blue bulbs parking lights. I plan to replace those with 6000k LED lights.

Oh I see it, no you're right. Parking light is the correct term.

The Gen 3 has two sets of parking lights - forward facing white one and a side one behind a yellow reflector.

How are they? I've been thinking about changing my fogs but haven't gotten around to it (still unsure about aftermarket yellow bulbs since it seems everyone has an opinion about them)
