it's a waste of time and money importing.

even if you can get it into the country, past epa, good luck servicing it.

over in the Subaru world people have looked into it and found that it is almost imposable to bring in ICE vehicles. one person tried to bring in a Nissan skyline by separating the engine and transmission from the car. he had them sent separately to Florida as car parts only to get caught by the EPA when he tried to put it back together. no more car.

Turd is right. The amount of time and money spent is not worth the effort. Besides it may take up to a year of your time. Your future would not look bright but bleak if after all that it still doesn't qualify. Then, what's your plan B with no money left and no car? Spend the time and effort making and saving money and buying a US spec used Prius and avoid the headache. You will have a much happier future.

Well, even better news is, I talked to my dad about it, showing him the great prices they had on Prius' over there, and he said that on top of giving me his tax money, that when his Toyota Tundra is paid off (in two months) that we will go to the bank and take out a loan for more money to put with the tax money to get a Prius. :D

I don't know. If you have ~$4000 and your dad is willing to give you his tax money and take a loan out, you could be looking at ~$8000? Won't that get you a nice Gen I if not a serviceable Gen II Prius? You won't have to do the whole import thing.

KISS (Keep It Simple Son) method applies here. You can do the whole import thing and you run a risk that you won't be able to have the car. For maybe $500 more or maybe for the same exact price, you could have a car that is already here and be driving it.

This is a no brainer to me. Price is a wash. One requires a bunch of work, paperwork, and beaurocratic hoops AND after all that you run the risk of NOT being able to keep/drive the car. The other requires a trip to the DMV to transfer title.

Why would you even consider the former? Do the math!!!!!

No, if you looked, I said that I'm going to forget the import thing and buy a great shape 1st Gen, or a acceptable 2nd Gen from the US. :)

How about you just buy an old MY2000 Honda Civic HX and drive it for a few years (while you save up for a Prius) like the rest of us? As opposed to financial writhing and going into more debt to have a stupid car? Seriously - it's just a car. There are a lot more important things.

    ???

Which post said that? At first, I thought I must have missed that post, but when I went back a few pages, I still didn't find it. Was that conclusion in this thread or another one?

Anyhow, I think it is a wiser move to go your current route. I hope it works out well for you.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't have the money in hand right now, but I will have it by February 15th. Also, if it has 5,000 dollars in damage, I think I might leave it alone, seeing how 8,000 is my limit.

I don't think the Prius is a stupid car, seriously - I plan on working with Toyota, and the Prius for my career. I attend the Hybrid Fest, (Green Drive Expo), Hybrid car meet-up's and everything. I think it would kinda be an oxy moron if I went to Hybrid Fest and pulled up in a old Civic. Also, if I already know I'm going to have plenty on money at the beginning of the year, I'm just going to go ahead and buy a Prius with it, instead of a car that I don't like and regret it everyday. I could see if the Prius was just some other car to me, then i'd have an Echo, or a Civic right now, but since I spent 6 years (since I was in 4th grade) learning about the Prius, and continue to be amazed, and want to work with them and base my whole career on them, and constantly talk to everyone about them, I feel that it would be stupid to get something else.

Every car is a stupid car if you have to change the way you live just to afford the damn thing.

Were not changing the way we live. All were doing is going to a bank and getting 4,000 dollars. It will be like a car payment. Like most everyone has.
How would it change the way we live by the way?
