the other morning the weather conditions were "just right" and I picked up a radio station in Houston, 90 miles away with clear reception. this happens frequently, some days it won't come in, others I can listen but so-so reception and like this, great reception.

    Howdy all,

Not sure if everyone is aware of this yet but there is a TSB for "Poor FM Reception" for 2010 Prius. The fix? An updated, "improved" radio has been designed. I can get details from TSB on Monday. So, for those of you with this issue, take your car to the dealer and have your radio replaced with the revised part.

    :)

Glad to hear Toy is finally following through on this. You think it would be possible to bring the OE HU and have them give me another one? I took it out and replaced it with a Pioneer. This in case I sell in the future and want to put the OE back in.

FWIW with this thread...I've had my 2010 prius for a month, and I find the FM reception just dandy. Some of the XM stations have less reception, but I'm finding FM is just as good as any other car I've had.

Please send (or better post) the TSB - I have a call tomorrow morning with the dealer and would like to slap the thing in his face...(though not his fault in all this story - see my previous posts).
After writing to Toyota Customer care Japan (with the help of a Japanese friend...), I got contacted one day after from Customer Care Germany who contacted my dealer talking of a "solution" - the dealer's technician contacted me via email after I had pinged them about the status of my request after the software update brought no improvement whatsoever, and he said that he had been contacted by Toyota Germany and that he had to look into a "possible solution" - this was end of the week before last.
I pinged again to know the status of this "possible solution" and he said he wanted to call me this coming Monday to talk about it (???).
If I have the TSB number and the doc by tomorrow, I would like to show it to him....so if you could please post it, that would be ideal!

Hopefully Toyota will issue the similar TSB for Europe market.

Yeah, what about us II owners???????

I was trying to listen to FM (rare, for me) today, and reminded again of how awful the standard radio is.

A shame Toyota couldn't issue a TSB for that POS too.

Thanks to josh2008, I had the T-SB number when I went by the local Toyota dealer today. Happened to be served by the service manager, who looked it up, printed it, got my VIN, mileage and phone number. No muss, no fuss. They will call in about a week when they have the radio with navigation.

An excellent development so far. Now they need to get the part ordered before the rest of you do what I did. ;->

I guess i dont understand how tsb's work...

Does this cover all 2010's or just specific ones? like a certain "batch"?

Do they charge you for it or is it covered under warranty?

The TSB that was posted is totally clear: If your VIN reflects that your car is "old enough" (newer cars are getting the radio with the improved FM tuner), then it is a warranty repair. Look at the table at the bottom of the first page. The important part is the 7-digit serial number at the end of the VIN.

My Prius was built in September, 2009, with two leading zeros in the serial number, so it was obvious from the table that my car qualified.

How do you suppose this replacement radio will deal with the XM aspect? I guess it is a separate module, but is that attached? I just wonder because I still have a few months on my years subscription and I really don't want to try to deal with XM if I don't have to.

I am assuming that the XM radio ID will change, and has to be reported to XM to get them to move the contract to the new radio. I asked XM about it by email, and got a response asking that I send all relevant information (old and new radio IDs, billing address, account number). Given the customer-service reputation that XM has accumulated, this might be an interesting experience.

XM is a separate module - they won't be swapping that out...

Just came from my local Toyota dealer. He had never heard of the TSB but looked it up, ran my car back to a technician and came back with it and said they had ordered the new radio and it should be in next week. Totally painless. Hope it works!

You are probably right. I bet they use the old CD for the navigation software too. With any luck the new radio might have the cd already in it.
