Hi Everyone..............like a few others on this site, I had a little mishap with my garage door opener. My wife left the tailgate up and I accidently opened the gorge door. The arm on the door operator tore the rear spoiler completely off, but amazingly there was no cosmetic damage to it. The rubber that I put around the arm to protect the tailgate must have saved it.

However, the (5) bolts that are cast into the spoiler that screw through the hatch pulled out and the (2) green plastic clips on each end of the spoiler broke. I was able to epoxy the bolts back into the spoiler just fine, but my local Toyota dealer is having some difficulty finding the correct part number for the plastic fasteners/clips.

Does anyone know the part number for the clips? They are green and have a head on them that slides into a slot on each end of the spoiler and have a bullet shape on the other end that pushes into a hole in the tailgate similar to the way the interior trim is secured.

    Thanks

Sorry about the trauma. I don't have any part numbers but perhaps you could use an alternative like the metal c-clips?

A similar thing happened to me, except that the garage door stopped short of tearing off the entire spoiler. After a loud crack the door stopped and rendered the spoiler a little wobbly.

Do you know if the clips on the two ends are fastened to the little rear window by an adheasive? On my spoiler, it appears that just those two end fasteners separated from the little rear window.

Also, to prevent another mishap like this, your garage door opener may have a setting that limits it's power on the up stroke...

Sorry that it's been awhile since I've checked back on this forum. The two plastic clips on the end have a bullet shape which snap into a hole in the hatchback. There isn't anything that attaches to the glass below the hatchback.

Well, as it turned out, my epoxy job didn't hold up too well. The bolt heads soon popped loose from the spoiler. I tried re-gluing them with Gorilla Glue, but that didn’t hold either. So as my final attempt, I drilled all the way through the spoiler and attached it with a flat head screw and nut. I painted the screw black and counter sunk the screw into the top of the spoiler for a flush finish. I don’t think the appearance is bad at all, but someday I’ll probably replace the spoiler.

So far it's holding up well and it feels pretty solid.

    To All,

I have been through this too. The 1st time I used JB Weld Kwik (epoxy). It held for a few months then came loose. I'm now in the process of engineering a better long term fix (no screws showing)and hope to include pics when I'm done (in about a week. Christmas is using up some of my extra time. Which is fine because :) Jesus is the reason for the season). It seems like a very poor design on Toyota's part.

As for the end plastic clips, I replaced mine. Toyota parts folks seem to be clueless on this. I had to show them where to look. The replacement clips are white and are the same ones used on the molding you have to pull off to get to the spoiler on the trunk hatch. Just take one of those off to show and tell the parts guy where you got it. Then they will find it.

In the mean time, you can see my pride and joy at

Can you tell me based on this picture if I'm having the same problem you did? Should those bolts that are attached to the car actually still be attached to the spoiler? Like all 5 of them managed to break apart in the exact same way? It just doesn't seem to make sense. The way the ends are winged out like that there doesn't seem to be a way to snap the spoiler back on to them, so I'm at a loss. 20160329_080512 (1).jpg 20160329_080512.jpg

Yes the metal clip things are attached to bolts and seated in the plastic spoiler. Nuts secure the bolts in the inside of the car. It doesn't look like the plastic broke but you may not be able to reattach the clips.
