That is really wonderful news. I was very happy to learn that an American drilling company was helping out in the efforts along with NASA.

It's nice to have news that everybody, regardless of political views, can say "That's GREAT news!"

Events like this remind us all that when needed, we can put aside political affiliation and national boundaries to join together and help fellow humans.

    Great work all around.

As they pulled up the last miner I got to thinking... I wonder how many of them came out as an atheist?

Hard to tell as you know the old saying "there are no atheist in foxholes" and that was some foxhole!

One miner treated his rescue as both a personal triumph and a national rallying cry. Mario Sepulveda, 39, the charismatic narrator of videos of the miners and their quarters, was the second miner to step out of the capsule in the overnight hours. He handed out rocks from below as souvenirs to the waiting crowds. Then, like a cheerleader, he led a boisterous chanting of what has become the chorus of this drama: “Chi — Chi — Chi, Le - Le — Le! Los mineros de Chile!â€

The first miner to lift the lid on the underground nightmare said: "It's incredible to think we were 700m underground and they have been able to rescue us.

"I was with God and I was with the devil. They fought and God won.

"He took me by my best hand, the hand of God, and I held on to him. I never thought for one minute that God wouldn't get me out of there.

"I believe I had extraordinary luck, I believe this was a test.

"I believe God does test people and I believe we have the possibility to confront things in life such as what we had to confront. But I'm very happy that it happened to me because I believe it was the moment in which to make changes."

He also pleaded with the media and the Chilean people not to treat him as a celebrity. He said: "The professionals that do all this publicity and TV, the only personal thing I ask is for you to not treat us as celebrities or journalists. I want you to continue treating me like Mario Antonio Sepulveda, a worker, a miner."

This is a great story on so many levels.

NPR did a highlight of the shift supervisor and all he did to keep them safe and together during the ordeal. Apparently, they were rationed to 1 spoonful of tuna and 1 cup of milk every 48 hours. He also ran the lights in 12 hour shifts to simulate daylight as well as appoint spiritual and medical leaders. Great job all around, both above and below ground. Amazing how they came out looking like they had just been underground for a day, all clean-shaven and healthy.
