Anyone have the P0A7F code

    My check engine and red triangle light came on. I checked the code and it's a battery issue. The code is P0A7F. I called the dealer and they want me to bring the car in for a check. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    I have about 117,000 miles on the car. They have a service bulletin open. I would like to avoid paying large dollars for a new battery.

    If I do need to replace the battery are there any improvements I can make in this area?

    DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area​
    P0A7F When either condition below is met:
    • Resistance of HV battery assembly is
    higher than standard (1 trip detection
    logic)
    • When the capacity difference between
    battery modules exceeds the specified
    value (2 trip detection logic)
    • HV battery assembly​
    • Battery ECU

    First, reset the code. If it continues to occur, I would remove the battery and inspect it. The battery ECU monitors the SOC of multiple battery banks in the assembly. It is possible that there is corossion on these connection terminals, and it just needs to be cleaned. The car should be driveable with this DTC. Has your gas mileage been effected? If yes, the battery may be shot, if not, then corrosion is probably the culprit. Lastly, the ECU could be bad, but this is least likely. If it is the battery, one battery module may be defective, and the rest OK. In that case, the defective module can be replaced, and the whole battery need not be changed out.

    I took it to the dealer today and the HV Battery needs to be replaced. I only have a 117,000 miles on the car and the cost of the repair is about $3600.00. If anyone has any GOOD advice for me on this issue I would be interested in hearing more.

    Personally I'm disappointed that the battery failed so close to the end of it's warranty. I was expecting 150,000 miles or more from the battery. Does anyone have any experience getting help from Toyota?

    Thanks for your input. I think this will become a popular thread for people who will begin to experience the same problem in the future.

    If you drive your Prius frequently in the mountains, the charge/discharge cycles can produce this failure. Since you live in Evergreen, I suspect this might be your problem. We have seen more than one of these.
