My Prius versus the F350

    Thanks to you all for the well wishes and for giving me the benefit of the doubt. However, I pulled out in front of the F350. I'm not sure why I didn't see him coming, or it just didn't register in my brain. Thankfully I was the only one injured. My husband didn't take any photos of the truck but it sustained damage to the front passenger side.

    Property means nothing. I am sorry to hear about your tibia, though; hopefully recovery is full and speedy.

    Given your description your body weight would have gone to the left away from center console, though otherwise I could see how the CC could cause knee issues, it does kind of jut in front of the driver.

    To add to the others--best wishes for a swift and complete recovery. I'm glad you weren't a few fractions of a second faster off the line--wouldn't want to test the side curtain airbags.

    All in all, versus an F-350 I'd say the car did a pretty admirable job in giving its life that you might carry on.

    Any way, have a speedy recovery and remember we all have a blind spot when looking sideways so turn your neck as much as possible when looking both ways. I have done this once, but I was lucky as my wife saw it, and warned me in time. H

    Glad you survived. An F350?!!!!!!? and the cabin is intact???????? The sloped A pillers block out our look to the left and right. The price of a low air drag car is this loss of vision when pulling out at 45-90 degrees to traffic.
    Heal well and keep us posted.

    Thanks. It's funny you mention the piller because I thought long and hard about whether or not a blind spot may have contributed to the accident before I made the decision to buy another Prius. I also thought about going with the Prius V for its additional safety features (instead of the IV) this time but my husband pointed out none of those features would have helped to prevent my accident. Not to sound flip, but they can't do much to protect against STUPID, which is exactly how I feel. In any case, I'll definately keep the pillar in mind when I finally get back to driving again.

    FWIW I have made a couple of extremely bad close calls in the Prius. I wonder if it was because of the pillars blocking view (in one case I basically did pull out oblivious to another car--something I never, ever do) or I was distracted by the instruments.
