Poll: Which tail lights annoy you the most?

    just looking for some ideas from you guys. I don't want to start an actual poll because I need you guys to put the following choices in order. Please rate from the most annoy to the least, the following tail lights illumination that you see on the road. You might have to use your imagination on some of them. Thanks.


    Red light constantly on
    White light constantly on
    Yellow light constantly on (signal light and hazard lights are still operational when turned on)
    Turn signal (right or left) constantly flashing
    hazard light constantly flashing


    For me it's

    1 Red light constantly on - I can't stand people riding on their brakes. It shows that they're lazy by resting their foot on their brakes. I can't tell if they're braking or not.
    2 Turn signal (right or left) constantly flashing - It's annoying to see people have their turn signals turned on and not change lanes because I always yield, especially to big rig trucks.
    3 White light constantly on - Not so much annoyed when I see reverse lights illuminates on the freeway when their car is doing highway speed going forward. Very annoyed when they're at a stop light or a stop sign because I can't tell if they're going to reverse and hit me or not.
    4 hazard light constantly flashing - not annoyed at all because they're letting other drivers know there's something wrong with them or their car.
    5 Yellow light constantly on - not annoyed at all because there's no universal rule regarding solid yellow tail lights. Signal lights and hazard lights are still functional so I still know if they're making a turn or if they have an emergency.

    The modified flashing/blinking high mount stop light. The one that blinks fast when first applied the brake then slows down to a constant.

    1 and 3 would be up there for me... For 3, I was thinking a broken taillight bulb so the white bulb is not filtered by the red cover.

    I've seen some blinking 3rd brake lights on city own service vehicles like the city bus.
    TP, the numbers are my order of annoyance. I take that for you the brake lights on would be your #1 and reverse light/brake light with broken red lens cover would be your #2.

    The tail lights right in front of me bug me the most, I wish they would move over so I can pass. Just because I drive a Prius doesn't mean I have to drive like an old granny.

    Oddly yu do not mention the options that annoy me most:

    Brake lights never on
    One brake light comes on, confusing as signal
    Signals never on

    All of those are worse at night

    I'll take option 6 (similar to Jimbo)

    Only one working brake light.. I see this just about every day (or none at all, which I see about once a month)

    No. 1 for me - the driver that rides their left foot on the brake pedal, especially lightly and the tail lights flicker on and off. Just about the time you determine that they are not stopping, just riding the brakes, they decide to do a quick stop on you !!

    Tail lights do not annoy me. Head lights at night annoy me. That's part of the reason why I never drive at night if I can possibly avoid it. But to answer your poll question: None of the above.

    These actually annoy me the least. They get your attention when the person first starts braking... exactly what a brake light is supposed to do. I first had this on my latest motorcycle and have since only noticed them on city vehicles (firetrucks and ambulances).

    It does get your attention, but if you are following the car in a stop and go traffic for half an hour, your eyes will start rolling with all this blinking especially those with the ultra bright light bulbs.
    Also I don't like those trinkling headlight lately used by motorcycles. I think this are are illegal.

    I see your point, re: following someone like that.

    I also agree about the blinking motorcycle headlight. Even as a cyclist, I did not use these because as a car driver, I find those so annoying to the point that I fixate on them. Whoever invented those didn't consider people who have seizure tendencies from rapidly blinking lights. I actually think those would be more effective if they were more of a flutter and in a random pattern. This way it would look more like they were riding on a bumpy road, but that rapid constant blinking/flashing headlight has got to go.

    I remember years ago those blinking headlights on motorcycle are only on police motorcycles. It's a quick way to know the cops are coming.

    The brake lights that come on every second or two on the interstate. If you have to brake that frequently, back the f**k off!

    As for other tail lights, I dont like those >>> lights that blink out a direction for turning. I dont know why, I just dont. I think they are on mustangs, but it irks me.

    I regularly see them on non-motorcycle bikes here... both cruisers as well as sport bikes.
