They smashed my window and ripped apart my dash. Took my after market head unit.

They hit two other toyotas with aftermarket stereos.

    That sucks...

I had a stereo stolen out of a pick up of mine once.

Which sucked too....but I have to admit, whomever stold it? They very professionally popped the lock, and then very professionally removed the stereo...

All it took was a little dent repair and then replacing the unit....I had to appreciate the real time and skill the thief evidently demonstrated.

I know, sorta sick twisted logic, but I'd much rather be ripped-off by a courteous thief...than a smash and dash...

It sorta makes you want to install a "Self Destruct If Scewed With" device, of course it would be perfectly legal, and you get you car repaired/replaced for free!

    One can dream, can't one???;)

Sorry to hear you were hit, that SUCKS bigtime!!!

Sorry to hear about it. Hopefully everything is taken care of by your insurance. I had aftermarket stereo and navigation units in previous cars. The same thing happened to me and that is why I opt for OEM navigation units or upgraded stereos. They might not be as good, but better than stock. Plus, they are just not worth it to thieves to steal them. I don't have to worry about it being parked and somebody eying it to break in.

    I'm insured.

MOst of the broken parts look like inexpensive plastic. They even fit together, but they rattle. I probably can pick up replacement parts from the dealer and get those to be better today. I'm sure some of the window glass is still in the door, there was so much of it. They also hit so many cars, according to the police 12 this week, I'm afraid to put anouther good aftermarket head unit in. I'll be paranoid where I park for a while, and I was in a safe spot.

Real sorry to hear about this. Makes you really feel violated doesn't it?
Had my 69 Bronco broke into many years ago and all for absolutely cheap equipment. And to get that cheap stuff they really tore the dash about terribly.

Why do people always steal the stereo? What is so great about the stereo? You can easily pawn off other parts of the car. Or just steal the whole car.

Anyways, sorry to hear that. I guess even the Prius isnt a theft deterrent...for stereos.

You can sell them aftermarket. I had a stereo stolen from my car years ago. They are easy to rip out and sell. You can rip out a unit in less than 5 minutes and if it retails for say $500 you can sell it for half that.

It sucks but it is what it is. I was pissed (and rightly so) for months after. I had saved for 6 months (just out of college and almost broke) to buy it for myself after paying off a loan and in less than 2 months I was ripped off.

Check ebay. Register it with the manufacturer as stolen. Thats the best you can do.

when i get ripped off, i try to chalk it up to 'they need it more than i do' and move past it if possible. doesn't help to dwell on it. all the best!

Sorry to hear about your loss. I had my last car (VW GTI) broken into last year and my bike got stolen about 6 weeks ago. It is a violation.......and feels like it.

Wow that sucks, sorry. Years ago I had my Mustang broken into. The stereo was mounted in a benzi box and wasn't in the car. I had a pile of dirty laundry in the back and the thief must have thought the stereo was under it.

I was really busy that week and didn't have time to take the car in to have the window replaced so I just put plastic over it and taped a "Don't bother" sign to it whenever I was parked. It actually worked.

I recently had a bunch of my tools stolen from my garage.
While maybe $500 to replace, now I'm not sure what I have or don't, if it was stolen or just misplaced. that really sucks, and now I'm paranoid.

I suspect the thief was the guy who came to my house begging a few weeks early asking for beer, or beer money, and asked if I wanted to buy some of "his" tools so he could buy beer.
What can you do? Survellience cameras come to mind.

That is terrible news. I'm sorry to hear it. When they break a bunch of crap to get to the stereo it makes it that much worse. :(
