Here's the problem, while Porsche is making environmental progress, this car more than ever feeds the I'm-better-than-you-in-my-SUV mentality. And that is annoying as hell.

How so? The Cayenne is one of the most technologically advanced vehicles around and maybe with the RX 450h the most advanced SUV. Porsche shaved hundreds from the weight over the last gen. The interior is fantastic.

This is no cute ute or X6/ZDX useless thingie. There is good cargo room. Some people also like the ride height of a SUV.

Porsche engineering is as good as it gets and its great to see them produce their first hybrid. More are coming and Porsche doesn't B.S when they build vehicles.

Maybe its just me. I would love a Cayenne GTS manual and this hybrid sounds very interesting for the future.

Mercedes and BMW have already stepped away from the partnership with gm to make those very expensive hybrid suv's and have similar systems in the new cars. I do hope gm does improve the 2 mode though as there are not any other hybrid pickup trucks and that is a huge segment of the driving public.

I want some of that 918 tech to trickle down to a boxter :D

Yeah you see its hard to listen to any response you give on this topic particularly when your name is "one smug lex(us)." There is another member in this forum you might hit it off with. His name is SW07ES.

That car is going to be something.:cheer2::cheer2:

Wow, making an assumption based on user name? So you like Big Macs? Or you an apple fanboi? Or He-man, Master of the universe? See how STUPID that sounds if I made that assumption.:p

FWIW I chose this name b/c I go by a similar name on my Lexus forum and swapped out SICK with SMUG since I would be talking about my hybrids here and b/c of the episode from Southpark that was pretty clever. ;) There is NOTHING smug about me and if you met me you would probably be like "Wth" this guy owns a hybrid.

So please be polite and mature and don't come to conclusions based on an internet "handle". That might be hard since you seem to make conclusions on SUV owners as well.

I will admit some bias towards Porsche as I am a huge fan of the brand and I follow them pretty closely for a non-owner (that hopes to own one someday).

Lol, actually you're right I (was) an Apple fanboy. Kinda grew out of that.

Nahhh no hard feelings. I know what it's like to feel biased. I'm a big Toyota fan myself. And actually somewhat Lexus too by default. What I'm not into is America's demand for 'class' initiated by luxury brands. Did you know up until the mid-2000s there was no such thing as Lexus in Japan? They were branded as Toyotas.

Since the Lexus SUV (rated at a respectable 295hp) is epa rated 28/32mpg ... we're not counting them in the "other SUV's don't get it right" pile? There's no reason to guess which hybrid model we have in our garage.

    :p

of course, that 4 year head start building SUV hybrids ought to count for something ... it'll be interesting to see how feature rich Porsche makes their hybrid for its cost. It better be packed with lots of high tech goodies.

    Cool:cool:
The thing is America is actually pretty accepting of most brands, that is why Hyundai/Kia resurged here first, why Daewoo actually sold here, why Toyota, Honda became successful.

In Japan, its worse. German cars dominated the luxury segment until the Lexus dealers opened in 2006 and even Lexus struggled there until 2008.

Europe is even more brand conscience then both, they are firm in buying a brand based on image.

I don't have any issue with people wanting a nice badge, people also want to eat good food, live in nice areas and work for good companies. :)

The use of a SuperCharger or TurboCharger almost always REQUIRES that the base engine compression ratio be compromised such that the engine runs in detuned/derated mode for just cruising along at a relatively constant speed.

    LOUSY FE....

N/A DFI engines can have a base/native CR as high as 12:1. But with forced induction and intercooling the base CR would likely be below 10:1, maybe even as low as 8:1.

I'll buy one just as soon as the V6 engine is converted to N/A Atkinson cycle(DFI 15:1 base/native compression ratio, 12:1 effective ratio). Or even Miller cycle keeping the SC.

    Screw the 0-60 times.
