My dealership told me to come in for a 1k mile checkup when I purchased the car. It's covered of course but I'd rather not go unless it's required. Anyone else have a 1k checkup?

My dealer also said skip the 1000 mile service and come back at 5000 miles for an oil change. I still haven't hit 1000 miles yet but am contemplating an oil change anyway.

If you have less than 5k, then you most likely are like me and are the owner of a new car. You really shouldn't have to go in even for a 5k mile service unless you want them to rotate your tires. Oil changes are now on a 10k mile schedule (as long as you don't do a lot of hard city driving or dirt road driving).
