Someone is visiting with a '10 Camry Hybrid. I took it out and floored it a bunch of times. The thing is clearly much faster than the 2010 Prius.

However, when it's floored it takes a dog's age to hit full throttle. I wasn't even looking for that but realized that when going from normal throttle to full it would take a solid 2.5 seconds to hit full G (just going based on pressure on my back and several runs with my stop watch). I then did it in the Prius yesterday and it's consistently between 1-1.5 seconds. It may not sound like a lot but that Camry takes unacceptably long to hit full throttle. I first noticed when I had the choice to yield or floor it to get in front of somebody and the lag was really far too long before I was accelerating fast.

I guess it's a bit troublesome because the otherwise fast car can give a false sense of acceleration; if one needs throttle quickly it won't be given. In the Prius, though, you just know it's slow and there is nothing strange about its behavior.

I have the 2007 and find it plenty fast. Never really noticed the lag you are discussing, but never really expected much either. It did occur to me to ask whether the car you were driving had the eco button pressed in (yes they do have an eco mode, though it's in a much less obvious place, and isn't called that; not sure whether or to what extent it remaps throttle response).

we have an 08, much faster than our 08 prius. i also have not noticed the lag you speak of, perhaps it is the eco button, or that particular car. however, in 40 years of driving, i have never had to 'punch' the accellerator as you speak of. i always fall in behind. more brake wear tho.

I didn't see eco anywhere on screen. Owners, try this next time you're driving: While cruising along at whatever speed floor it. It should be 2+ seconds before full torque is achieved.

It's not obvious like the Prius. The button is low on the dash and I'm not sure there's even a dash indicator that it's on. Definitely affects the A/C. Not sure about anything else. And no, this car does not act like a sports car in any case. More like your father's oldsmobile, but with only a 4 cylinder engine. Plenty fast enough for me under all conditions. I'm kind of surprised you're surprised.

Why? No car I've ever driven is this slow to hit max throttle, including a Prius or other CVTs.

I don't know if ECO was on. I didn't turn it on but I bet it doesn't impact throttle response anyway, when floored.

The Motor Trend numbers appear to be better than for a Prius. I'm not qualified to say anything else, other than sharing that I haven't had the same impression or experience from driving my car.

I said it was faster than the Prius in my third sentence. It is much faster, with more combined horsepower and it's more fun to drive. However, I maintain its throttle response--at least when asked for significant throttle--is much worse. It's like turbo lag from hell :)

Strange, i found the exact opposite :)

The ECO HEAT/COOL button changes the climate control only AFAIK. When engaged, a small ECO word appears in the climate control screen.
