And you think we actually are doing that?

See any pictures in the last few days of birds being killed in Alberta Tar Sands tailing ponds? How about the Gulf of Mexico in the last months? Or how about Prince William Sound? (Just to name a few in North America!)

Only one holy book? You can't be serious. That's an extremely disrespectful point of view. Even a staunch atheist like me has more respect for other beliefs.

Yes, but the difference is that s-man KNOWS the others are false. Depending on his mood he will either pity, "enlighten," or kill the heretics -- all for the grace of the "true" god. His, naturally.

I concur. Daniel knows more religious history, particularly christian, than anyone I know. And that includes a few scholars, and many priests.

Christians also write that they have been give divine rights to do whatever they want with the natural world for whatever whim or fancy suits men.

It is no wonder they cannot see the Earth is out of balance.

Well, Canucks do have a reputation for being more reasonable than their southern neighbors. However, answer me this: how many of the christians you know view view modern western animal agriculture as a travesty to life ?

A few; certainly not a majority. 'Dominion' and 'cruel, brutal dictatorship' are generally seen as two very different concepts. ;)

Which political party? At least here we have more than two legitimate choices, and they're not all right of centre. :)

In other news....I think we've wasted enough time debating religion, although it has been informative at times. What say we give icarus his climate change thread back?

We got our 14.9 cft freezer. Our family and my parents are going to stock it w/grassfed beef. Energy star, of course, and we're keeping it in my parent's basement to keep the delta-t as small as possible. I want to get away from the industrial agri-cow rubbish at the grocery store for so many reasons.

Home Depot gives you a 10% discount for energy star, which is pretty cool. It was also the floor model so we saved another 10% and it was already on sale for $50 below normal. yay!

    Yep,

Driving through Calgary the other day, a monster Pickup passes me with the bumber sticker saying "I'm an Albertan, I eat cows drill oil and shoot stuff!"

Guess that about sums it up. And then, watching Calgary TV that night, there are whole streams of ads brought to you by Suncorp and other Tar Sands guys, showing flowing streams and chirping birds, and everyday Joes and Janes telling us how hard they are working to make the Tar sands clean and green and how great it all is. Followed by the news a few minutes later of another few hundred birds killed in the toxic tailings pond. Followed further in the news by the "Alberta environment Minister" If ever that was an Oxymoron (and no, don't complain that I am using the word moron again!) if ever there was one.

If all you American's out there have know idea what I am talking about, I suggest you do some reading on the "plusses" and minuses of where you are getting a huge amount of your oil!

If you are right with the Lord, you would not judge others. The Earth is part of the Lord as well, and should be treated as such: with respect. At least these good people are trying to do right. And they are not spreading judgement or negative destructive energy around.

Before you complain about the splinter in their eye, you should remove the LOG in your own.

Oh, I've seen how Christians "love" non-christians.

Swords, starvation, slavery, torture. Thanks but no thanks.

Hold on there! Christians are not all alike in their behavior! Christianity, like nearly all religions, is used to justify all sorts of atrocity and environmental degradation. And I personally think that Spiderman's theology is as wacky as they come.

But he has stated that he believes that Christians are called on to be responsible stewards of the Earth, not to exploit it. The Bible can be used to justify whatever life style you like, from ruthless exploitation (since it says we have "dominion") to organic, vegetarian, minimal-impact.

So we have some common ground here. I'll continue to argue against his irrational and exclusivist theology, but while he argues for environmentalism and responsible stewardship you cannot lump him with the "dominion" crowd.

Boy you sure like to embellish... but I guess it is because you like to hear yourself talk/write. But I thought I would highlight the relevant part of the babble.
