Say hello to my little friend!! Jack and I met at the LA warehouse. He asked if I want to see the kit. Good thing I said yes. He unbox the kit and noticed that the BMS is missing. He checked over the kit and said that BMS is the only thing missing. He said that I could install it but don't turn it on or charge it without the BMS. He said that the BMS will arrive on Monday and that he will ship it to me. The kit has a second charge port for optional 2nd charger. I asked him how many anniversary kits he sold. He said about 100 kits.

The kit came in 2 packages. 1 for the case, inverter, charger, fire extinguisher pre-mounted and all the hardware and wiring in 2 separate ziplock bags. The other is for the battery. The battery is labeled as 50kg. The package for the case is almost as heavy as the battery. The led can not be hinged like the gen2 because of the cut out on the case to clear the fan duct and the emergency cut off switch. The main difference between the gen2 kit and gen3 kit is that the gen2 kit's batteries are mounted right by the OEM HV pack and the inverter and charger are mounted by the hatch latch. The gen3 kit is opposite. The inverter and charger are mounted by the OEM HV battery and the battery is mounted by the hatch latch. The case itself is really heavy. Enginer could really lighten the whole kit if they could shave some weight off the case. I transported the kit with my Tacoma. The kit is heavy enough for me to notice that there's a load in the bed. I can feel the acceleration and the cornering lagging. This kit will definitely slow down the Prius and decrease its handling. damnit, now I have upgrade my rear suspension to compensate for the extra weight. I took some pictures of the kit but I haven't open up the battery pack yet. It's encased in a wooden crate. While I was picking up the kit, I saw the new battery pack. There are 2 packs 24v each. They are enclosed in solid metal case, no venting holes, no fans, just 2 power wires and BMS wires and thermal shut down wire coming out of the case. They are small compared to the Mottcell batteries. When I unpack mine, I will take some more pictures. I also bought a white version of the plug to match the white paint and killawatt and a heavy duty timer. I'm gonna have a fabricator friend look over the kit to see if he can rig up something so that I can still have spare tire access. Enjoy

So you are saying that the Gen-2 kits are now different than the Gen-3 kits? And when you say Gen1/2 I assume you are talking about the Prius generation and not the Enginer generation, right?

I didn't know the marineco plug was available in white. I wonder which would look better against the blue-pearl paint on my 2008 Prius?

Could we see a closeup of the dash switch? I can barely see it in the image, but it looks to be different from what I've seen before.

My kit should be here on Tuesday the 27th, according to my Fed-Ex tracking#. I've had the batteries for a about two weeks already.

I have been told that the 4Kwh option generally doesn't require any suspension changes. I hope that continues to be the case.

Looks nice. Weird about the BMS though.

If they've really sold 100 kits since the offer price, they should be able to afford some more office staff!

Yeah I mean gen 2 and gen 3 prius not the kit. I don't even know how many generations the Enginer kits have. I was looking for the marineco onboard charger inlet specs and accidentally stumbled on the white version. They also have the white RV version which is only a dollar more. I should have bought that instead because every site states it's UV resistant. I got mine at Amazon for 17.71. According to Amazon, the marine version is also UV resistant though. The 150BBIW spec,http://www.amazon.com/dp/product/B000NI38MQ?tag=priuschatcom-20http://www.amazon.com/dp/product/B002QALLOQ?tag=priuschatcom-20 black plug would look better on your car. The white would stick out like a sore thumb. If you want the attention then get the white. adric22 when you get your kit, check for the BMS to see if it's there. IF it is, then I got jibbed.
Jack seemed disappointed when he said that they sold 100 kits. I was thinking that's it? It's only $250K. I thought they would have sold close to 1000 kits.

Well, Jack can be bad with orders-of-magnitude sometimes. For example, at the Green Drive Expo, when I asked him how much the Enginer kit cost, he told me "thirty-five thousand Dollars" But he saw me looking at him funny and then said, "Thirty four ninety nine."

But, I don't know.. 100 might not be unreasonable being that in most of the country gas is really cheap right now and the awareness surrounding this product is very low. I expect that to change, though.

Your dash switch definitely won't fit in my car, the shape is a little different. I hope my kit comes with the right one for my 2008. When I ordered the kit for my 2002 a year ago or so, I had to manually build the switch out of one of the exting "blanks" from the car.

It should fit. I've seen the install video for Gen II Prius. The blank spot looks exactly the same as mine. The blank filler is different but the size looked the same.

That switch still looks horrible, and i think will have the same problem of "can't see the red light". Hopefully the BMS16D will make it easier - if you get one.

    CPROAUDIO,

Where are you located in CA?? I have a 8kWh kit in the Los Angeles area and was wondering if I could take a look at the new Batteries. And also the mounting template??

    Thanks,

    Chan

    New Enginer Kit Dry Fitted

I got a chance to dry fit the Enginer box. It fits pretty well. The right side mounting rail were the battery mounts could use some trimming. The HV exhaust vent had to be cut to fit the box. I was told to cut it by Jack when I picked up the kit so it wasn't a surprise. At first I tried to fit it without cutting the vent but no go. Once I cut the vent, it fits nicely. I masking taped the hell out of the bottom of the box and the car so I wouldn't scratch neither. Tell me what you think.

so the traction battery will blow warm air into the enginer enclosure now?

Yeah but you can build a vent attachment to re-route exhaust to the side. BTW I got an email from Jack that he had shipped the BMS.

Actually the air coming from the Prius HV battery will probably be cooler than the air in the Enginer box. The converter generates much more heat than any of the batteries.

If the car cabin is normal not warm to a person then the design will work fine with the air coming from the cabin into the Prius HV battery, then into the Enginer box and then out the vents in the back of the car.

    Thanks,
    Dan

After extended use of more than 30mins, the 5000W converter will have thermal issues regardless of the temperature in the cabin. At least the is my experience. My 5000W converter will go into that annoying on off cycle when it reaches a certain thermal threshold... Better cooling for the converter will help greatly.

I just received my BMS package. It does come with a battery system monitor display that's hooked up to a USB port on the BMS. I'm still working with my fabricator friend on a mounting system so that I can have spare tire access. Does anyone know any heavy duty 36 inch wide piano hinge? All I can find are none heavy duty ones at lowes or home depot.

yeah, it is pretty amazing how much heat the converter generates. I was thinking this morning, since it was cold outside, that I should figure out a way to vent the converter exhaust into the cabin to use as passenger heating. Then when it warms up outside, redirect the flow back to the vent that exits the car.

Smart Key Sensor i believe. It supposedly works fine where it is with the Enginer kit in place.

I'm getting ready to install my Enginer Kit. Actually I'm on the planning stage. I need some plug location recommendations. Rear bumper is my last choice.
