The dealer is trying to play you. Why don't you post their name so other can avoid them?

 

What do they think this is a BMW M3? Only a highly-tuned performance vehicle or a POS deserves to have $300 spent on it at that mileage for the fuel system.

As always, go with the manual. Also, I'm pretty sure that the official Toyota-sanctioned oil change interval is now 10,000--not the 5,000 in the manual that you may see. I think...I hope so or I've already voided my warranty

Anyway AFAIK and I've never heard differently at all on any car forum is that to maintain your warranty you need do what's in the manual. I'd be very, very sparing about doing anything beyond that since nine times out of ten it's just money in the toilet.

When you compare the manual to the "dealer recommended" you see a huge divergence. Guess which one costs you more?

 

Just bring it in every 10k. mi for an oil change, if your not at all a 'do it urself guy" the only thing extra you should have them do is a check on the airfilter and every year the cabin air filter. Since the Prius now uses synthetic oil yopu shouldn't be paying more than $60 for an oil change and even that is generous. Remeber if you do go to a dealer check their web site for coupons and don't let them push you around, let them know you know what your car needs and doesn't need.

 

Read and follow your manual. Don't take this the wrong way but it will save you hundreds maybe thousands of dollars to see what Toyota recomends on your car. It only takes 10 or so minutes to read the section on maintance.

 

This is just another example of a scumbag dealer. The 99% of the bad ones make the 1% of the good ones look bad.
