My wife and I both have I phones, but only mine is paired with our 2010 Prius III. Can you pair more than one phone? The owners manual was a little confusing. Thanks for your input.

Yes, you can pair up to 4 phones. Each phone is completely independent of the other. By that I mean that each address book, Speed Dial, etc. is completely unique from the other. Also, on power up the phone will pair with the last phone that was paired before power down. There is a screen that you go to switch between phones.

Thanks JD. I guess I could have just tried pairing it before I asked.

We have found that only one phone can be paired to the car at a time. If your in the car with your wife.......only one of you can have phone working with the bluetooth radio in the car.

If I have both our phones set up via BlueTooth and I was the last person to drive the car, i.e. my phone was the last one paired, will it automatically pair to my wife's phone if she drives the car next and I'm not in the car? Or, will she have to manually switch it from the last paired (Mine) to hers? Thanks...

As far as i can remember, your wife needs to manually switch it.

My wife drives my car every now and then and I know she uses her phone without having to manually switch it. I know she does not know how to switch it. So, I would have to say that it will pair with whichever phone is in range. I know on Sunday mornings when we are both in the car, I have checked and it will pair with mine since mine was the last one paired.

We have been surprised that when both of us are in the car and it originally pairs with mine, if she gets an incoming call it will automatically switch to her phone and her call will come in over the audio speakers. I checked after the call and it remained paired to her phone. I would have to manually switch it back to mine.

I have not been in the situation where I received an incoming call after the system switched to the wife's phone to see if would automatically switch back to mine.

Interesting... I have not paired my wife's phone yet because it's my daily driver and she rarely if ever drives it herself, but we do use it a lot on weekend when we're both in the car. I'll have to experiment a little and see what happens. It would be nice if it could be paired with both at the same time and automatically switch between the two based on who receives the incoming call...

You can pair up to four phones, but only one is active at a time. You have to manually switch the active phone.

This is the same experience that we have found with our phones. Both are paired and listed into the bluetooth radio system, but only one is active at a time. This seems to differ with jdcollins5 experience.

I would like to know how jdcollins5 gets both of their phones to be recognized when a call comes in. !!!

I did not say that both phones were recognized when a call comes in. Only one phone is active at a time. What I said was that my phone was originally paired. When a call came in to my wife's phone the system automatically switched to her phone.

The OP did not say which Bluetooth phone he has. He has a III with no package, per the info block. With the JBL system, the phonebook is limited to 20, based on the Toyota tech video (I have not added that many), shared among users, and the pairing stays on the last used phone. Selecting a different phone is an audio command or a radio dial entry, via the Setup menu.

This is still different than what others have experienced. In the situation you describe, others have reported that when the call came in to your wife's phone, it would ring and work as a stand-alone cell phone, not automatically switching to work with the car.

    Tom,

I understand what you are saying about what others have reported. All I can tell you is what I have experienced. It has happened more than once.

I will say that I did not check to see whose phone was paired before the call came in to her phone. I can say that every other time that I have checked when the two of us have gotten in the car at the same time that it has always been paired to my phone, which makes sense since mine was the last phone paired.

I guess the next time we are in the car together I will have to verify that my phone is paired, then have someone call my wife to see if it switches to her phone or not.

Well, when my wife and I got home from dinner tonight, I checked and made sure that my phone was paired. I had her leave her cell phone in the car and go in the house and call her phone. The call went to her cell phone and not over Bluetooth.

So, now I am not sure how calls in the past have gone to her phone and have been over Bluetooth with both of us in the car:rolleyes: I just figured the system switched the pairing automatically. Now I am not sure how or why, but I do know it has happened on at least three different occassions.

Is it possible she got in the car first and thus the system did not see the last phone paired (yours) and then paired to hers instead?

Yes, that is a possibility that I thought about. But she has been in the passenger seat and cannot start the car from there. I have always been the one to start the car with her in the passenger seat.

One other idea that I thought about is that if I had started the car, then ran in the house to get something and while out of the range maybe the system switched to her phone !

It looks like the Bluetooth would have to had been paired with her phone somehow in order for her to receive the incoming calls, though.

The next time this happens we are going to have to remember the sequence of us getting in the car, etc.

As far as our phones work with bluetooth in car. Someone has to switch the phone manually......I'm not aware of Bluetooth in car locating a paired phone then switching to it automatically.;)

I finally solved my issue with my wife and the bluetooth pairing. She took my car yesterday and when she tried to use her phone she got a message to pair her phone to the car, which she did.

Later that day I got in the car without my phone but the car indicated that Bluetooth Connection was Successful. I checked and the car had paired with my wife's phone. She keeps her pocketbook on the kitchen table and it is close enough to the car in the driveway that it can pair.

Again later when I got in the car with my phone, it still paired with my wife's. I had to manually switch it to my phone.

The times that we have both gotten in the car, the car must have been paired with hers last time so it pairs again to her phone.
