I caught this on the news channel this morn (CTV I think)....

So a rental house catches on fire. A cigarette carelessly disposed of by the back door caught some boxes on fire which torched the house. Damage is extensive but the house didn't like totally come down.

The next-door neighbor is a firefighter who happened to see and come over, knocking on the windows trying to help get people out before the fire trucks arrived.

Well the news interviews the lady living in the upstairs. Long story short is she briefly thanks the police & firefighters but she thanks above all the Lord her God for saving her.

I know if I was an emergency personnel I would be very offended. It's like "oh, thanks for coming by, but I am really grateful for an imaginary daddy in the sky". C'mon.... like the person/people who called 911 and the trained emergency personnel had nothing to with you not dying.... unreal..... the lady is delusional...

Of course, if God wasn't asleep at the wheel, the house wouldn't have caught fire in the first place.

just because you're an atheist doesn't mean other people believe that way, obviously. if you are a firefighter who believes in God, and you believe that God gives you the strength to save that woman, i don't think he'd be offended that she thanked God. No religious person would have a problem coming in second to God. but, if you are a non-believer i can see why you'd be offended.

It is quite possible that you all are being quick to judgement.

Isn't it possible that it was god that directed the neighbor's attention to
    the burning house?

Isn't it possible that it was god that allowed the rescue truck to get to
    the house without incident?

Isn't it possible that god had kept the lady alive long enough to bear
    witness?

Isn't it possible that god in a physically manifest form as dog, walks
amongst us every day as the song says?

Isn't it possible that god really does care, and has given us his/her only
begotten Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, and Great Pumpkin as
    visible, incontrovertible, everlasting proof?

Isn't it possible that the existence of beer is a fulfillment of god's
promise that there is a heaven on earth that is our birthright?

God doesn't sleep, god started the fire so he could become a hero by saving the woman.

    LOL

I suppose you can't pick and choose what to thank God for. If you thank him for sending people to rescue you from a burning building, you should also "thank" him for the car accident that killed your aunt or brother or cousin a few years back. etc.... or am I wrong?

    p.s. I'm not an atheist.

This makes one wonder where god was when the fellow who hadn't paid the fire department tax could only stand by helplessly as his house burnt down while the fire department watched. Off counting tithe receipts I guess. Damn slacker.

This reminds me of the old story about a true believer who fell overboard on a cruise. He had been treading water for more than a day when a fishing boat came by. He refused to get in, saying "God will save me!"

A second boat came, and he likewise refused. After refusing the third boat, his struggles came to an end, and he slipped under the water.

Meeting God in heaven, he said: "God, I waited and waited for you to save me. Why didn't you help?"

God replied: "I sent three boats. What more was I supposed to do?"

Of course it doesn't fit any of my beliefs, but I like the story.

I'm angry at the firefighters for interfering with natural selection.
