A test given by GMAC Insurance on the rules of the road puts New Yorkers at the end of the pack. The national average for this test was 76.2% while New Yorkers scored an average of 70% with New Jersey drivers right behind at 70,5%. Kansas drivers scored the highest on the test at 82.3%. Click GMAC test and rate your own driving ability. The test consists of 20 questions taken from DMV exams.

Boy do I know it, the stuff I see amazes me.
    My score was 100% :D
I think anybody that gets less than a 90 should seriously think about a refresher course. After all if they dont know the basics they cant know much.

I got 100% too... but even so, I think some of the questions are debatable. For example:

    17. There is an emergency vehicle coming from behind you with emergency lights on and flashing. You should:
    A. Slow down and keep moving
    B. Speed up and get out of the way
    C. Maintain your speed
    D. Pull over to the right and stop

It depends on the situation. When your on a multilane highway, getting over and stopping is almost impossible when there's traffic, and can be dangerous. Your expected to get out of the way, and only pull off the road and stop if your actually being pulled over. On the other hand, on surface streets, you're expected to pull over to the right and stop.

No, you should always go to the right, and do your best to stop if safe to do so. Doesn't matter if you're being pulled over or not. And you never want to stop in the left shoulder because that might be the only way for the emergency vehicle to go forward in heavy traffic and now you're blocking it.
(I also got 100% but I wasn't sure about the legality of the passing-on-the-right question, just know what is common practice).

I think the competitive folks in Atlanta may be trying to steal your Title! This morning on my way to work, I had a car tailgating me as I drove 50 mph in a 45 mph zone. I was 0530 and dark. A deer ran in front of me, so I applied my brakes (didn't slam them because I saw it coming, but did slow quick enough to avoid a collision with the deer). The tailgater immediately swerved and passed me, crossing a double yellow line and almost hitting an oncoming car. Miraculously, there was no contact between me, the deer, the tailgater, or the oncoming car, and she sped off down the road at well over the speed limit! A few moment later I catch up to her at a stop light and notice she has her interior dome light on and is talking on her cell phone! This is just one example of the stupidity I see on a daily basis, and further proof ignorant people should not be allowed to reproduce!

Why take away their fun? Reproducing is the only thing they seem to be good at, well that and knowing social security rules inside out! ;)

What is really amazing is that 70% could actually read, understand, and have an attention span long enough to answer the questions.
