I have my iphone 4 paired to the bluetooth of the prius III. whenever I dial from the phone, it connects thru the speakers of the car. however, whenever i receive a call, the car speaker rings, i answer, and the voice goes to the phone's earpiece. i have to manually choose the "carmedia" connection every time for the sound to come thru to the car speakers. anybody know of a fix to this annoying problem? i tried to remove the phone and re-setup/connect but no change.

Since you have two Bluetooth devices, the car and the earpiece, it sounds like your earpiece is your "default" device since you have to manually switch to carmedia. Do you have a way to change the default in your phone or turn the earpiece off while you are in the car?

no sorry, i meant the calls default to the earpiece on the phone, not a separate bluetooth earpiece. in our other cars the voice routes to the car by default. this is not the case in the prius

Try answering from the steering wheel controls. I guess you mean the internal speaker on the phone.

It does it on the IPhone 3 also. I don't keep an earpiece on (I think they look silly and don't have to be enslaved to my phone in my job), but when I answer an incoming call by touching the phone it is kept on the internal speaker. Someone on here suggested I try answering on the steering wheel and that works (whenever I remember to do that).

Another interim solution is to touch the speaker icon on the phone and it works on the external speaker so it works if you are in a quiet area and just want to answer it quickly. Otherwise it will permit you to view the options and switch to the bluetooth.

It is a real pain and I know that it is my own fault for not remembering to answer through the car, but it is hard to break old habits. I don't think there is any setting that can help you.

You raise a interesting question. Perhaps...just maybe the iphone is thinking that you want a private phone discussion...that's why it's not going through the car's speakers

Answer the next call with the off-switch button on the steering wheel..see what happens. If the incoming call goes through the car speaker...that's what you want..

I have the same set-up.....I'm going to have to play with it...see what happens with my incoming calls.

I say that to myself all the time and then the next time it rings, I look over at it and swipe the answer bar on it. I know better but it is a reflex.

The worst thing is that when I am listening through bluetooth streaming to an audiobook that I have loaded onto my IPhone and I get an incoming call, I invariably try to answer it by tapping the phone and mess up the bluetooth connection until I can stop and restore it.

Joe: Next time put the iphone in the glovebox...that should take care of your reflex....

Well yeah, but it would be hard to keep up with my Internet hearts game. That 5 mile commute is soooo boring.

Just kidding. I have it charging on a holder so I don't have to remember to do that at the office.
