Tried installing a headrest dvd system tonight and was unable to get it to work. While debugging the problem, I only found 5.5V on both the front and rear seat aux cigarette lighter ports. Anyone else run into this issue?

    thanks,
    mike

    No issue with mine.

Do you have anything plugged in to the ports when you are reading voltage? If so, disconnect and read again. You may have something pulling the voltage down.

What is your 12V battery voltage read either at the jump point in the engine compartment or at the battery in the rear cargo area?

Did you have the car switched on ?
The 12v sockets are only 12v live with it on.

    Hmmmm....
    I would expect 12 (or 13.5) VDC, or 0.
    Not 5.5 VDC.

    Was your car powered up?
Was anything plugged into the other "cigarette" jack?
Is the voltage reading out of the other jack normal?
    and... :D
Did you check your meter against a known-good source? I catch myself trying to read AC instead of DC sometimes, if I didn't switch the meter all the way over to VDC.

    Good Luck!

And are they 5.5 if they are switched off? Zero I might buy.

It could be reading 5.5 milliV or microV if you're using an autoranging digital multimeter.
