2010 Prices Paid and Details

Good luck to you, I was prepared to drive some distance to save the money. The dealer I did the deal with had to get me what I wanted. The web showed over 600 2010 in the SE but only about a dozen red III and IV's within 200 miles of me.

Sure glad I helt out for the red, I had not even seen one in person before mine arrived at the dealer.

 

Thanks Yes it is a good thing you waited to be completely satisfied with your purchase. Where did you check to see how many cars are available in your region? Or was this checked by the dealer?

 

On the web site you could see what was coming available from toyota SE, then I just looked up all the dealors inventory. Yes it was time consuming, Then I send an email to all the dealors with a red like I wanted and asked for there best drive out price. Some of them were not even in the game. So when I went back for the second face to face I was ready, no games, no hassles and if they would not do what was already promissed I would have drove to my second best promise #2 was actually waiting for me to come, because he doubted I would get the #1 deal.

I did the same and in So Ca the price for a II was $950 less. If dealer here wan't match I might drive down there.

Question for people who have traded in - how close are usually different dealers in trade in offers. I will be trading in Honda Civic hybrid so this will also have effect on price...

 

That's a good question because I am also trading in a corolla. I found a dealer that offered $470 less than the best price in my local area. I wish it was a $950 difference lol.

State of Oregon, and a generous trade in allowance on our
old gas burner.

No complaints as I purchased the Prius for my wife who
traded in her old car and she loves and still loves to drive
her Prius.

Just got quoted $22,800 for a II in NJ - seems like I could get a better deal than that. Any suggestions? I am going to drive a Civic Hybrid today that I can get for slightly over $18,000 - $4000+ difference is a lot. Is it worth the extra for a Prius?

 

I would negotiate a bit harder on the Prius. I paid less than that for my III w/Nav.

Something else to keep in mind when comparing Toyota Hybrids to Honda Hybrids, Toyotas have electric AC. This may not mean much this time of year, but next summer when you sitting at a long stop light and the engine on the Honda shuts down, so does the AC! It doesn't take long in 90+ degree weather for the interior to start heating up! There is also a significant difference in the hybrid systems, which is apparent when comparing the gas mileage of the two different brands. Do your homework, negotiate a bit harder and you'll probably conclude the difference in price between the Toyota over the Honda is worth it.

 

My fiancee and I went looking at the prius yesterday. Walked out financing it.

She got the 0% APR financing. She was gonna just buy the car outright to begin with. So its not like we really saved anything by getting the 0% financing. It is just a nice added feature.

We negotiated the car down to $30,037 before taxes and stuff. but tacked on the Remote start for something $750 ouch. She really wanted the remote start. I think we could have negotiated stronger on that.

Oh yeah it was a Prius IV Blizzard Pearl with solar roof/nav package.

Drove the Civic Hybrid today - it has a luxury package, so it's a really good deal for $18,000. I got a couple of quotes from other Toyota dealers of slightly under $21,000 for a Prius II - the one who gave me the higher price threw in free maintenance for 2 years. I am not sure if the free maintenance is from the dealer or the manufacturer for repeat Toyota buyers - anyone know? And how much is maintenance for a Prius? What $ value should I place on that?

So, here's my trade off:

Prius- $2000 more expensive for a less luxurious car, which might be offset by free maintenance for two years. Better A/C, user community, hatchback for utility. Dealer is in walking distance from my house for service.

Civic Hybrid- leather seats, luxury package, doesn't scream hybrid, sedan, looks like a regular car inside.

I am leaning towards the Civic, but am going to wait a couple of days to decide. I'd appreciate any further thoughts.

 

Well, the free maintenance is on any new Toyota right now, so don't let that dealer BS you! That Civic does sound nice, but check around of the internet, there have been reports of problems with the Honda Hybrid battery in the Civic and the fix ends up dropping your mpg considerably, and by that I mean to the point you might just as well purchase a regular Civic. Maybe they have fixed it, but it wasn't to long ago the news of the battery issue was pretty prevalent. There is a section on this Forum for Honda Hybrids, do a search there or post some questions of other Civic Hybrid owners before you make your final decision. If you really like the Civic, you could probably save a couple thousand more by buying an EX-L and you'd have the same gas mileage and a bigger trunk. Not trying to change your mind, just want you to be able to make an informed decision. There may be a reason they are selling the Civic Hybrid so cheap, when I purchased my Prius, I couldn't touch a Civic Hybrid for what I paid for my Prius III w/Nav!

 

I just picked up a Blue Ribbon Metallic II with Katzkin dark gray/perforated leather, Rosen navigation with iPod & USB cable, blue tooth phone/music, backup camera for $23,835, and weather tech all weather mats. (although they gave me the 09 mats, but they were free so I can't complain)

Includes the $1000 incentive and 1.99% financing. Is that a good deal? I checked with a lot of dealers and that's the lowest I could negotiate for with all the options I wanted.

 

Well we FINALLY bought a Prius. I know we could have gotten a better deal but we did not want to make the trip to southern California or to the east coast especially since we're going on a family vacation in January. Overall, I am satisfied with the Prius and pricing.

However, I did purchase the Platinum warranty even after knowing I could get it cheaper. I just wasn't sure on the details behind the warranty that Troy offers here. Silly me. We will be canceling the warranty and going through Troy later this week. Also, is the Toyota Premium Auto Care worth the money?

Once again I will be canceling the Platinum plan, but would love to hear opinions about the auto care plan. It seems to be cheaper than what is offered on priuschat. Also, we average between 20-25k miles a year

Oh and as I was typing this, I noticed the pricing is different with what was given to me in email by $180. I'm going to the dealership tomorrow to put in a word about this

I've received about 5-6 Internet quotes from dealers in SoCal and the best was $21,000 for a Prius II (no options). Is $20,500 a reasonable price to shoot for? I would think that I would have more leverage as we get closer to the end of the year.

Very surprised with the latest spike in gasoline prices that the Prius prices haven't started to creep up. Aside from the Volt(are there even any on the roads yet?) there isnt much that can touch a new Prius.

I bought my Prius II two days after Thanksgiving and paid about $19,500 (which I thought was a great price btw). I had to talk to my salesperson just the other day to re-sign some of the paperwork that was done incorrectly and she said that they are back to selling at invoice. Good timing on my part it seems

It seems like there have been paperwork "mistakes". E Street, what was the paperwork problem you had?

Like Jordan, they also added ~$250 to the price I previously negotiated. I had to look closely and break down the price to figure it out. Luckily I was able to double check and catch it before signing the agreement. I even pulled up the email in my phone and showed it to them. They apologized and said it was their mistake. Jordan, I hope you're able to get that difference back. I wonder if this is a common practice for dealers to conveniently make these "mistakes" and how often they are called out on it.

Once you get to the financing table, make sure to double check your numbers. Don't let them rush you, it's a lot to take in so take your time and understand all of it. I certainly don't have a high opinion of car dealers and that experience reiterates why.

 

Have you thought about asking for some dealer options in lieu of the $500 price difference (if they absolutely won't budge on price)? My dealership seemed pretty open to throwing that sort of thing in to close the deal. Mats, window tint, side molding are what I added....or there may be something else you particularly want.
