Good information on not taking bites too lightly. I asked my dad to see the dr (doesn't look like this bite but allergic reaction to one) after reading your post. Top of hand is red with raised area. Put spray benadryl/cortisone at night but after 2 wks still there. I remember reading about Lord Carnarvon who discovered King Tut's tomb. Think he died from an infected mosquito bite.

A good strong vacuum cleaner when you do your spring cleaning is advised...

I didn't post up the real nasty ones Bra...

A brown recluse bite is not a good thing for almost all critters.

Feel free to keep the rest of them to yourself, lol. Those are pretty nasty.

It sounds like, from reading here, that the bite itself from a brown recluse isn't typically fatal, it's the necrosis that you have to watch to make sure it doesn't get infected. Interesting this thread was resurrected, as I was watching Infested on TV last night and the episode featured one with this actual spider.

I read/heard somewhere, that Black Widow fangs supposedly don't always break skin on humans. It seems that may not be true from what I read here.

My uncle Ray was bitten by a Black Widow back in 1939, the pain he suffered permanently made one of his eyes askew for the rest of his days...

Three years ago... I was moving some things from under the slot machine we have in the bedroom... an old laptop in a case and some stacks of CDs...

I put the stuff from under it to the center of the room to sort em out...

Pulling the stuff out not thinking too much about it, I brushed my hand against some stiff webs... and rather quickly felt a tickle on my palm... I moved my hand immediately and saw a black widow with an azzzz about the size of a quarter scurry across the carpet to the end table legs... I go get my "webber tool" to smack her silly so I can get rid of it, toss it in the trash, sure enough - Black Widow...... (I don't smash bugs into my carpet)

Looking at my hand I saw what looked like a single black spot just under the "girdle of Venus" on my left hand...

I didn't pay it too much bother cause I get splinters all the time... about half a week later I get to taking it out and looking at it under the magnifying glass I can see it is about 1/8th of an inch, black, and appears hollowed out... Susan freaked, but I figure it was my luck. :D I AM a lucky man. Just not always good luck...

She tried to bite me, no, the spider DID bite me, but I was too fast and ripped the fang right out of her face. I didn't have any spider venom in my hand... and that was the fourth time I petted a Black Widow...

The 5th time was cleaning out the dryer vent outside of the garage last Summer...

    I am a lucky man.

Its important to bomb your house at least twice a year. And if you have a shed do that every 3 months.

Pick a weekend where you will be gone all day and nuke the place. Start out in the attic and open 2 cans. Then open some cans in the house with all the cabinets and doors open. Then open some cans in the garage.
    Really helps.
Never had a flea or roach or spider in 11 years so far and that's saying something in Florida.
Long time ago I rented a nice house that had brown recluse's in the basement.
There were banana tree's on the property. If I owned the house they would have been gone the second day I moved in.

And also once in a while go out at night with a flashlight and look at the perimeter walls of your house and see whats crawling around. Sometimes you will find a new nest with ants trying to get into the house going up the wall. Then ant spray around the perimeter of the house. Really helps.
