2006 Prius totting it's own horn

    recently my 2006 prius has started toot it's own horn. while at a stop my cars horn gently starts toot-ting by itself. :confused:

    before i take my car into the dealer and get charged an arm and a leg thought i reach out to this group and find out if anyone else has experienced the same problem.

    I haven't heard about this particular problem before. It sounds like the spiral cable within the steering wheel hub has a short, causing the horn to blow - or else the horn switch itself is bad.

    try tooting it while it's tooting itself and see what happens.

    Another Bad Clockspring?

    Call the toyota customer service and ask (demand nicely) they cover all costs of a new clockspring. The airbag functions through it so it's a collision safety item, toyota should be responsible.

    BTW, I've heard of a few of these failures lately. Anyone experiencing a failed clockspring should report it on the NHTSA site and complain to toyota customer service. Makes the failure visible to toyota, and motivates them to take care of it.

    Mine does that occasionally - it is the brake master cylinder. The dealer will first of all replace the brake fluid and if that doesn't work he may replace the master cylinder. It should be covered with no cost to you.

    It is not a safety issue just trapped air being released.
