Prius 2010 in Scandinavia, Lights always on, how to turn off?

    In Finland (all Scandinavian?) Priuses comes with low beams "always on" setup. Do anybody knows how to switch off this feature?

    I'm planning to insert extra Led daytime lights to car and want those to be primary lights, not low beams.

    Only way to switch off low beams is switch lights to parking lights now.
    On every other choice from light switch put low beams on, even off choice.
    And I want that when light swich is on zero(off) selection, all Prius own lights are off. Like all you other guys have?

    Toyota service don't know how to help, because this modification is done somewhere else than Finland.

    What does your turn signal stalk indicate as far as headlight switch options? the US stalk has off, parking lights, and headlights. It could be as easy as replacing the stalk to a US stalk.

    Yep, stalk is same for me, it just doing different thing.

    Off = Low beams on, Dashboard lights off, parking lights on

    Parking lights = low beams off, Dashboard lights on and meter lights dimmed by light sensor, Parking lights on

    Headlights = Low beams on, Dashboard lights on (and dimmed), Parking lights on

    If I turn off car and leave stalk to parking lights or headlights and try to leave car it makes noise(beep) when drivers door is open. In off position it's just turn lights off when power is off.

    I think they're hard wired like this with different wiring looms and relays etc as required by your legislation.

    I'd like to have daytime running lights on my UK Prius, mainly for safety reasons so I am more visible to the morons who pull out in front of me! lol, but it would be too hard a job to modify easily.

    I believe the Canadian models have the same DRLs as yours.

    This modification is waiting for summer. There is minus 21 Celsius out there now. And I don’t have garage.. :D

    I like to install another set of led lights (DRL, daytime running lights (example Hella)), to not waste gasoline in clear days for regular halogen low beams.

    It’s illegal to drive without lights in Finland even in sunny day. But you can use new LED DRL lights to replace low beams. Many new cars have these LED DRL lights like Audi, but somehow Toyota don’t have them.

    Ours is high beams at reduced intensity (~60%) and the DRLs are still on if the parking lights/taillights are on. They only turn off when the low beams are turned on.

    In Finnish law (in EU too?) DRL lights are different thing than low beams.

    I asked for DRL (LED) for my Prius at the Toyota dealer - though very helpful, the supplier of the LED DRL he had on offer, did not really know how and in which way they could be installed. I would wait for the new version of the Prius to come out (maybe MY2011) with LED DRL and see if the older MY2010 can be retrofitted. I will then do that.
    In the meantime if it is a sunny day I will use park lights only, and when gloomy/rainy use the low beams.
    Consider also the cost of the LED DRL compared to the mpg hit of using the low beam headlights. It might well be that the whole life time of the car usage will not offset the cost of buying and installing the LED DRL. Certainly people (might) see you more, but I see a lot of distracted people on the streets, that cannot even see a car with lights like on a Xmas tree...
    If I cannot do a "cheap" and easy upgrade to LED DRLs, I will keep the car as is.

    DRLs are going to be compulsory in the EU starting from 2011 (according to Wikipedia) so this means that the Prius will need to have some kind of LED DRL available - question will be cost and what will need to be replaced (e.g. the entire headlight???, only a light bulb someplace?) - I am curious to see what will change in the Priuses sold starting from 01.01.2011 (if that is the date).

    My understanding is that the legislation only applies to new car models going into production after the compulsory requirement comes into force. So the G4 Prius will require them, whenever that comes to market, but the G3 will not.

    I hoped they would come with a DRL LED solution for the current one... :(
    Oh well, I will save the 3-400€ (or more?) to get it upgraded and will complain about spending more in fuel for the usage of normal headlights in 10 years.... :rolleyes: (gas price permitting - if they continue like this, speculating on the price of gas without any link whatsoever to oil prices, we are going to pay 2.5€/L in the next 5 years...)

    But, it’s a principle... ;) There’s also not a point to buy new car to save fuel.

    Mmm.. New Lexus CT200h has LED DRL lights.. :rolleyes::D

    I have checked yesterday the Lexus CT200h website which will be available in Germany in Q2CY11 - from the few information I got from the website, it has the same drivetrain of the Prius (same engine, electric motor, etc), but with a much higher quality (?) and better refined interior...
    It is a high-end Prius!
