Look on a recent top 20 list, you should find the Prius between 15 and 20.

Roundabouts are better for traffic flow as well. They're one of those things you folks do across the pond a lot better than we do here in the colonies. Pubs are another...:D

They (traffic circles)do not work here because the US driving population is rather dense when it comes to actual driving ability. Examples abound incliding: Parking Assist, backup cameras, the surfeit of automatic transmissions (or more telling, the number of people who cannot use a clutch) etc....
We have more wide open spaces, and the only two things you need here in the US to obtain a driver's license here are a pulse, and proof of having racked up 15 birthdays.

We have proper football and baseball, coffee instead of tea, and the ability to get warm water in a sink by opening only one valve...so there is a proper balance in the universe...;)

    Merry Christmas!:)

    Concur....
I think I read where it was #12 if you exclude body on frame vehicles (trucks.)
I suspect that if (or when) gasoline climbs to about $5 a gallon, then Priuses will probably break into the top ten.

    We're not there yet.

I know when I bought mine in June 2009, I was happy to only have a 1 day wait....now I am waiting to hear if it is totalled (hit and run in a snow storm, with 12300 in damage....)
I will not replace it with another prius if it is totalled.

It was because that was the way it was with Beetles at that time. They got 39 MPG. They were all still made in Germany and only so many were being imported.

We got ours during the cash for clunkers program (it was about to end and we had to have a hybrid for the HOV lanes). We were looking for a Camry hybrid but there were none available. I called a local dealer and the salesman said he was their hybrid expert and that there was no way we would find a Camry. He said he "might" have one Prius left if it hadn't been sold the night before. I told him we hadn't considered the Prius and he said we should check it out because it was a great car. He checked and called me back a few minutes later and said it was still there, his last hybrid of any type, and it was a red IV with leather and nav. In the meantime I had called a friend who I knew had owned an earlier gen Prius and he confirmed that he really liked it. I put a deposit on it and drove the Jeep clunker there and met the wife that afternoon. She drove it and liked it enough so we wrote a check, gave them the keys to the Jeep, and drove it home. The next person who called them was probably told they couldn't get them one before C4C ended. We just lucked out and got the options and color we probably would have chosen. They wouldn't discount it a dime but C4C made it a good deal.

It was a fad. How many "new" Beetles do you see on the road compared to Prius.

I was not talking about "new" Beetles. I was talking about 1959. As I said, the Beetle got 39 MPG that year. The person who ordered is was a mailman who figured he could save some expenses on his rural delivery route.
Recall also that at that time there were so few Beetles in this country that VW owners used to wave to one another, like motorcyclists still do today.

The breaking point for the price of gas in the general U.S.
public's mindset is the $4.00 per gallon mark.

Once the price is over that magic $4.00 per gallon people
begin to notice that it now takes close to $60.00 to 80.00
dollars to fill up their land manmouths.

The other negative side to all this the cost of living will go up
accordingly. All prices, on everything you buy, yes; everything
you buy, is associated in one way or another with the price of oil.

For those people who are crying for a higher gasoline taxes
do this: when you fill up your car send $10.00 or $20.00 to the U.S.
government to bring down the debt. They will gladly take your money.

I don't understand why so many Americans would rather send that money to Vladimir Putin, Hugo Chavez, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. They are also very happy to take our money.

Ah yes... those were the days! Wait, I was born in the 60's. Ha ha...nevermind. But seriously, I do remember riding in one when I was very young and thinking they were cool! Definitely a unique car! I like them.

Traci, I wanted to buy a Prius back in 2002 but there was a wait list. In 2005 they were calling me up trying to sell a car. In 2008 I missed the window and the dealer wasn't even taking a wait list...

I caught a deal in 2010 because there was a glut of cars in our area. Great Price and great deal... Price of gas was lower and the problems with recalls at Toyota.

I'm hoping you'll enjoy your Prius... I like the blue and would have gotten one but chose a silver because I liked the options better...

Back in the "good old days" (2006) dealers were selling the Prius at MSRP or higher & salesmen were at their height in arrogance. "If you don't take it I have 2 people standing in line & another walking through the door that will." Dealers might have 1 or 2 on the lot. If a car sat on the lot for 2 weeks that was a long time. The only time I saw 6 at once was when the truck just unloaded. Used cars were also selling for MSRP.

When the Tesla store in NY opened there were a total of 6 or 7 Roadsters present. Outside of a Prius meet I had yet to see the same number of Prius in one place.
