2010 Prius OEM-quality Fog Light Kit Now Available!

FOB is your car key thingy. OK, so the car boots up and you see the welcome to Prius message right? Perhaps the engine is not starting because it is warm enough. Did you try to put it into gear?

 

Yes i see the welcome to prius message, all the icons are lit up. I held the power button for about 10-15 seconds and the now i see the ready come on. so the car seems to be working, but i know something is still wrong. I have to hold the power for 15 sec to start the car every time, i know that not right. Before i would just press it once and then it would say ready... Any one know how i could fix this problem????

 

So if you hold it for say for 3 seconds it does not go to ready? Make sure too that you are firmly holding down the brake pedal the entire time it goes from off to ready.

I am thinking that everything is OK. You might take a video and attach it so we can see what is going on.

From what i have been reading on this forum, that im starting the car in accessory mode. Thanks to Troyroy post.

When the hybrid system does not start, the following steps can be
used as an interim measure to start the hybrid system if the
“POWER†switch is functioning normally.
Set the parking brake.
Set the “POWER†switch to the ACCESSORY mode.
Push and hold the “POWER†switch for about 15 seconds
while depressing the brake pedal firmly.

So is my battery too weak to start up the car? When i was installing my fog light i have the door ajar for about 2-3 hours until i was done. How would i check if the battery needs to be charged?

Has anyone experience this before, where they have to start the car in accessory mode, what did you do to reslove the problem?

I will be taking the car to the dealership but would this void my warranty, if they find out that it's an installation problem?

OK. So if the car is "booting up" where you can see the welcome to Prius message then the 12v battery is OK and the car should start (the big traction battery starts the car not the small 12v). I suppose it is possible the traction battery has gotten really low and that is what is throwing the message and thus why it is not starting the engine. If this is the case, the dealership will have to connect a special charger to the traction battery and charge it back up. Others might have more insight on this procedure.
If this is the case, I am sure the dealership will try to pin the problem on your mod.

 

If the traction battery is really low to a point that it doesn't start the car, but once the car is on and running, shouldn't that
automatically charge the traction battery back up?

 

OK, now I am loosing track... you are saying the car does boot up and the engine starts. Right? So the only issue is the error message, right? Will the car go in gear?

 

I'd really like to add these to my 2010 IV but in Virginia, the car will fail inspection unless the fogs AUTOMATICALLY turn off when switching from low beams to highs...a thought for others who have state inspection issues to deal with. It happened to me on another car.

May need to engineer a fix but for another day...more pressing would be to add a SNOWPLOW!!

 

It would be easy to add a normally closed relay to the wiring to make this happen. Tap the high-beam wire and attach it to the trigger of the relay. This will open the circuit thus killing the fogs.

 

I do not know...a whole $ dollar $ for the relay ? ..let me think about it Thanks!

 

Just came back from the dealership to get my car checked out, the auto start would not come on. While driving to the dealership, my wife noticed that the brake light wasn't working also, let the service advisor know and come to find out that all it was, was a blown fuse. The car is back to normal.

 

Glad you got that figured out without anything seriously wrong.

 

Im noticing some condensationon the fog lights, anyone else experiencing this?

 

Some have even noticed it in their headlights.

Only after my first pair of fogs got cracked did I notice condensation. On the second pair I added a clear laminate. So far so good.

You might double check to make sure the gasket is sealing between the housing and the bulb.

 

What's the average ship time for the fog lights? I placed an order on the 22nd. The next day I received an update that the order was sent out to the supplier and expected delivery time is 5-10 business days. I'm thinking orders will be slow due to the holidays.

Edit: The fog lights came in lol. FedEx left them at the front door and I didn't notice them until someone came to the door lol.

 

I noticed the other night that the backlight on my fog light switch was no longer on and the lights did not work. My first thought was the tap connection to the brown 12V wire.

When I removed the dash cover where the switch is mounted I found the connector in the back of the switch was out along with the insert piece that locks the connector in place. I noticed that one side of the back of the switch was separated from the rest of the switch. This side piece snaps in place. I was able to re-install the insert back in the switch and snap the cover back in place. I re-inserted the wiring connector in the back of the switch and it locked back in place.

Everything is working fine now. If it pops back out again, I plan to wrap some electrical tape around it to hold it together.

Anyone else had this happen to them?

 

How are these fog lights holding up over time? I've heard about paint peeling and moisture under lens. I really want this mod but want OEM quality. Thanks

 

You can order the parts from Toyota or even parts.com. Just need to get the part #s.
My inserts are OEM and they are holding up very well. The OEM fixtures were like 4 times the amount as the check ebay ones I bought. After the first set of cheap ones cracked, I put a laminate over the second pair. So far they are holding up well.
