Worried about my Prius getting "keyed"

If you get the good HF type of detector it is not really sensitive to low frequencies such as bass from car stereos, glass-pack exhausts, etc. They are tuned to the frequencies of glass breakage or metal crunching, prying, *scraping*, etc. I can't say for sure if an afterburner on a military jet will not false it, but if it does, there is a simple solution. Install a cheaper LF detector wired such that when tripped it inhibits the HF detector. This will stop almost all false alarms due to any kind of excessive sound.

If you want to be alerted to your alarm, they have long-range 2 way systems that are cheap now and will work up to a mile away.

Hate to worry you any more, but it happened to my 2010 Black V Prius. It was in an Olive Garden parking lot. I was parked on the end space away from the front door. They put a deep scratch from the drivers door through the rear passenger door. It took $750 to repair. I now avoid parking too far away from a business entrance and try to park between other cars to decrease the visibility. Thankfully my wife's Blizzard Pearl 2010 hasn't been touched so far. Both cars are fully alarmed. But that's not enough to stop someone keying your car.

 

Wow. If you work where I think you work and you have sub ordinates that you manage and they are so mad at you they key your car (more than once) I find it hard to believe upper management is not really really concerned.

Unless its personal related in which case upper management will do all they can to avoid getting involved if you know what I mean.

I have worked for a few huge corporations and cannot imagine a boss's car getting keyed in the company parking lot without the sh*t hitting the fan.

I think you have to have a security clearance to work where you work.
Its really not a good idea to go on a forum and complain about issues your having at work no matter how minor especially if you are a boss. Not these days...and not with a security clearance. If there loooking to get rid of you this would do it.

Plus you have posted your picture and your first name and what you do for a living with your complaint. Not smart.

Just saying none of this is going to put a dollar in your pocket.

Be careful. Full anonymity has no regrets. Its a highly political place you work in and apparently you have enemies. Don't make it easy for them to hurt you.

As the above post illustrates, parking normally is "key" but leave enough space for the driver side door to open and don't overdo it. Taking up double spots or angling your car puts it at risk for getting keyed.

 

Why worry about it? Just keep your comprehensive deductible low and let the insurance company worry about it.

 

Blue, don't worry about what Fox said at all. Your thread is not grounds for termination or should not even be frowned upon. You've said nothing wrong or self incriminating. I've seen people get fired over facebook or inapproripate uses of Internet and your thread doesn't even come close. You came to one of the few right places to raise a legitimate concern. If you want this thread deleted you may PM a mod, but again I don't feel that's necessary. Perhaps Fox should re-read a training manual on company ethics to know what is actually unallowed.

Hmm...I thought when you were at The Olive Garden you were family. Tough Family.

I understand parking closer to entrances, but parking inbetween other cars to decrease visibility seems counter intuitive. It does seem to me (I've never been a victim nor a perpetrator) but it seems to me that keying an automobile is a criminal act of vandalism. Since I think 99.9% of humanity perceives the act as illegal, unethical,...wrong...my further speculation would be that most perpetrators would want to remain hidden. It's a cowardly crime.

I think in most cases, if someone has already decided they want to do this to your car, as seems to be the case with the OP, that being "less visible" would be a disadvantage. I'd want to park in as open, and as publicly visible a spot as possible. As close to as many potential "witnesses" that would likely discourage someone from doing what is a criminal and illegal act.

No big deal, but my advice would not include parking in a manner that hides your car from view. Especially if this is NOT a random act, but an act of an individuals or an individual with a imagined or illogical personal agenda...

 

Plus the black helicopters . . . oh wait, I mean predator drones circling above. Also don't forget the tin foil hat. It never goes out of season. If you go to Google images and search tin foil hat you'll see there's even tin foil hat beach wear although I'll not post the pic here and I question its effectiveness on "mind" reading.

 

Last week a black Escalade tailgated then high-beamed me....either I slowed them 50 yards prior to the freeway exit or they misjudged the exit by a mile.

Anyway, I just cut might headlights off in response to the highbeams and he then zoomed around me.

You do not have any idea how hard it is, how time consuming and expensive it is to get a security clearance.

Airing out big problems on the Internet your having as a supervisor managing your people at work at a defense contractor and listing the project she's involved with while holding a security clearance for said project while clearly identifying herself is not very smart and grounds for dismissal. Hell, with a security clearance they don't even need to tell you why there firing you. And when they smoke you they'll pull your clearance for good so bye bye to any future govenment job.

well, one thing for sure.....since they don't have an actual 'key', it won't get "keyed" by another Prius owner!
