Kiplinger just released their top 10 autos of the last decade. It's not surprising to see Prius on their list at number 3, but why did they list the Prius as a PHV 2011 since the model is barely released.

What is amazingly surprising is that Kiplinger lists the Chevy Suburban as number 2. OMG, how much money did Chevy pay for that listing? That's just shameful...

    Happy Motoring,

    Tom

I'd have to read the article (hyperlink?) but I suspect that GM paid just as much as Toyota did.

Still....it's nice to see the Prius get good ink. It beats news about recalls and 'unintended acceleration', despite the fact that this would make it cheaper for me to buy one.... :D

Given that they state that the parameters of evaluation are based on: Performance, Value and Safety. I'm NOT suprised the Chevy Suburban is on the list. I'm MORE suprised the Chevy Corvette is on the list....as it is not a vehicle I would instantly think of as either a particular "value" or among the safest...

But Supreme Kudos to Prius for breaking into the list with the highest gas mileage and lowest Horsepower. Slowly redefining the parameters of Performance.....

I honestly believe that Priiphobia is what allowed me to actually be able to afford our car. :D

This list is bulls**t. We had 10 years and this was the best they could come up with?!?

Corvette: Not bad if you're driving in a straight line
Suburban: Are you F'ing kidding me? What is this, 1999?
Mercedes E Class: overpriced junk made in Mexico. Really.
Ford Escape: Shoot me. Just do it.

My list would be in no particular order:

    Nissan 3xZ
    Acura RSX
    Toyota Prius
    BMW 3
    Lexus ISx
    Honda Civic
    Toyota Tacoma
    Audi S4
    VW GTI
    Cadillac CTS

The Corvette does what it is supposed to do very well. Can you name another performance car that beats it's combined handling and straight line performance for the same price and is still a comfortable car for long trips?

What are you basing your safety conclusion on?

Hey, sorry, not knocking Corvette. I'm just saying it doesn't pop into my mind when I'm thinking of value or safety.

I don't file alongside The Prius or Volvo...

I have no doubt it does what it is suppose to do very well. But if my personal parameters were to choose a automobile based on Value and Safety quite honestly Corvette wouldn't be my first choice. Not that for what it IS the Corvette cannot be considered a value..and/or safe...they just are not the Hallmarks of The Vehicle IMO.

I think it probably rare anyone sits down at a table, and IF Safety and Value are the priorities of automobile purchase concludes that a Corvette is the best choice.

That being said, what's not to like about Corvettes? As the article points out...they are Iconic...and usually you don't reach that level unless you have been, and are, a very capable vehicle.

Think of it as the TIME Person of the Year, "For better or worse...." I'd agree with its placement if we're talking about the SUV-ization of America.

I agree, and Al Capone could have been on a list of most influential men of the decade 80 years ago.:D

The Chevy Subdivision was good at what it did and was around long before the SUV craze really took off. The Chevy Subdivision goes back to 1933.

Have you driven a Vette? It's great on trips, corners, hills AND straight lines. It also gets decent MPG's considering it has 400 HP.

If I didn't have kids I would have one in my driveway alongside my trans am.

I have driven the CTS and how cheap it felt, UGH. I got my Prius over the CTS and the BMW 3 series, Acura.... ect.

You are not reading the article correctly. All the vehicles listed are #1 in their category. Prius is the #1 Economy Car . . .the Suburban is the #1 Truck based SUV, the Corvette is the #1 Sports car.

No shit!, it took me only 1 second to figure that out. I can't believe people open their mouths before reading the article. It clearly indicates the best car in their perspective categories in no particular order. If you read the yahoo link (not the actual article) the economy class is at the third slot. If you read the actual article, the economy class is the first slot after the introduction. Why is the luxury class listed twice? Why not use one of those for a truck category?
You may not agree with Kiplinger's choice on some of the categories but I think we all agree with his choice on the economy class.

Okay, sure I'm an idiot. But in my defense I did NOT click on the Kiplinger link, I only looked at the Yahoo clip...

And Yahoo cherry picks...and presents the whole thing as "5 of the 10 best cars" and is NOT real clear about the fact that Kiplinger is making choices out of "classes".

But you are all correct. I go now to poke my eye 5 times with a stick.

It takes the fun out of it for the post police if you poke yourself with the stick instead of letting them do it.:D

    I wouldn't worry about it.
    Everybody cherry-picks.

    Put the stick down.....:D

Don' know about the Kiplinger's list, but your list pretty much matches one i would draw up, using your guidelines:p
