I'm guessing that's exactly what happened, and why Toyota admitted the problem after publicly denying it and claiming it was driver error.

The guy overreacted and overcompensated, and in a dangerous way because using both feet puts you at risk of hitting the gas pedal. In all my incidents, only one foot is sufficient to stop the car. Heck, you only need only one foot to achieve maximum braking.

Rather than being ignorant about what you're talking about, why don't you go over a few potholes and test for yourself? It's easily reproducible after the brake fix and even in the Gen II.

Toyota simply misjudged customers' comfort level with the prolonged delay in the Gen III pre-brake campaign and fixed it accordingly. It's still driver error when it comes to the UA claim, as it's mostly perceived.

Your point? Surely you are not trying to equate UA reports to 9/11?

Time to stop following this thread ...

I can't judge that situation without more information. If the video was higher resolution we might be able to see if the brake lights were on. I can see a definite roost of dirt from the rear tire just before the car came to a stop in the parking stall.

But it sounds to me like you are saying if one person crashed because they mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brakes, then all future cases must be driver error, regardless of how many people complain about it.

What if this happens to you and you're sure you only had your foot on the brake?

no. except for the "both feet on the brake" thing. very dangerous if you catch the gas pedal. but how does this relate to your friend? do you now think he was slowing down with his foot on the brake and hit a manhole/rough patch and the traction control made the car shoot forward?

Yeah, and it's being reported as 'faulty' because there is no evidence at all that the car was faulty, and the writer of the report (and the people involved in the case) believe the driver was at fault, which seems the most likely explanation (the fact he was having difficulty parking certainly suggests he was either unfamiliar with the vehicle or no longer capable of driving safely)

It would be most useful to have every complainant state their age, and also whether they habitually drive with one foot or two.

In past episodes of UA most of the victims were, let us say, no longer young. Maybe car makers save up the defective cars and sell them under a senior citizen's discount.

I posted the link to show it happens in your UK as well.

It's relevant because somebody said the bumpy condition problem wasn't unintended acceleration, so I posted a few of the NHTSA complaints. Almost all of them describe it as unintended acceleration, lurching forward, increase of speed. Only a few of them describe it as a loss of brake force.

That's my Plan C. But it wouldn't be a Yugo.

    Obviously my point was:

Percentages are great until the problem happens to you or a loved one.

It's just like prescription medication. If only 1% of the patients develop life threatening side effects, it still sucks if you're one of the 1%.

And no, I'm not trying to equate prescription drugs or 9/11 to the Prius. They are examples of how statistics can be manipulated to make things seem not very important.

Dude, what happens when there's a loss of braking force, you lurch forward, right? Those of us who've experienced it agree it feels like the car unintended accelerates momentarily, but Bob Wilson's data obtained with his trusty accelerometer indicate otherwise.

Sorry, but you're making a mockery of yourself with your silly posts.

i read thru many of them, they do not sound like the brake problem. lunging forward, over a curb, into a wall? no way. 2-5mph? no regen, not a chance. driver error or something nasa was unable to find. sun spots maybe.

Actually I'm just posting public complaints verbatim. You can mock them if you want, but it still doesn't change the fact that the Prius owners chose the words "unintended acceleration" in their complaints. Maybe Toyota should have hired Bob Wilson instead of NASA?

toyota didn't hire nasa, the government asked them to take a look at it. if u/a exists, the brightest minds in the world have not been able to duplicate it in over a year of trying now. and don't confuse the traction control issue with real u/a, people claiming their cars accelerated to high mph without being able to stop them, most ending in serious accidents, now, that's u/a!!!

No, I'm not referring to those public complaints but your interpretation of them and your confusing UA (as defined in your OP) with the regen to friction braking transition, as well as your thinking that the BMW might actually have UA instead of driver error of mistaking the gas pedal for the brake.

Do any of the complains contain data? Before & after speeds? Until you find one I'll call BS on every one of them. If I had nothing else to do with my time I could spend all day posting complaints to NHTSA using my 2010's VIN, my 2006's VIN, making up VINs.

    What's that prove?

For those of youwho need a place to test:

Come to NJ & drive in the right lane on Dutchneck Road in East Windsor Township (08520) going east toward US130. Lightly brake over the storm grate while turning right onto the highway. Notice your speed before & after the "UA".

    Here's Google's coordinates in latitude & longitude: 40.268772,
    -74.542556.

I agree, nothing more to see here. Time to move along.

The only thing this thread is doing is supplying competitors with a 14+ page fud weapon to scare customers away from considering the Prius! And I'm betting that was the intent!
