I have a JBL subwoofer from a 2008 Tundra with JBL/Nav. This is a JBL sub that came new with the Tundra- under the back seat in the double cab. I've since replaced that with an aftermarket system in the Tundra, so this one has just been lying around.

I saw it on the shelf today and thought, well, that looks about the same dimensions, at least in height, as the Prius storage hatch. The sub is a very irregular shape, but I tossed it in the storage space and it is the exact height. I'd just need to cut one leg off and I'd still have access to everything. Looking at the pictures, I'd probably cut the long leg and mount it in the upper right corner of the storage area.

So now I'm wondering if I can just screw it in, buy a connector and run it from the JBL head unit in my 2008 Prius. I don't really want to go digging in the Tundra to pull the connector- if it is even an independent piece. Any thoughts?

Well first off there is NO subwoofer drive out on the Prius JBL. You are going to have to get an ampfier and you will need to roll off the high end to drive this thing.
At this point you might want to consider just buying a poweed subwoofer like I did. I used a BOSS BASS powered unit.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/product/B001DXF990?tag=priuschatcom-20 you need to do for installation is supply +12 from the battery, and Speaker level drive from the L & R, you are good to go! The also make a nice 8 inch version. Best part is the 10 inch Boss sells at Amazon for $99.99[IMG]

I just took over a 2004 Prius package 9 from my wife. I bought her a 2010 Prius IV. Where did you install the 10 inch sub? I am fairly certain it won't fit under the driver seat as that's where the NAV unit is.

I had a Kenwood low profile sub in my Mazda5, worked okay with speaker level inputs, sounded better when I had an aftermarket stereo. Any issues getting to the rear speakers? The Mazda5 was a PITA.

Assume you crafted your own box? I frequently tote a lot of bags (I fly for a living). Not sure how the sub would handle frequent bumps without a good cover/protection. Thanks for the pics BTW.

That would be a YES! The top is 1/2 inch plywood, I routed a nice round hole into it, chamfered the edges, and used speaker cloth that matched the interior color. The sides are simple aluminium plates with the cloth glued onto the backsides and Velcro holds the sides and top on. It is then bolted onto the floor cover over the HV Battery! I figure out of sight, out of mind!
