    Last Sunday night I took the front passenger side wheel cover off just to see if you guys were kidding me.. I sort of expected a flat black solid, dirty wheel. You guys didn't steer me wrong. That's a pretty good looking wheel under there.

    I put the wheel cover back on until I could; 1) check with you guys and read up to see if my MPG would change and 2) I wanted to have time to get the center cap and to clean them up. It was too late and cold to think about getting out the soapy water and making them look presentable

    I think I'm going to go with the 1 1/2 electrical box plugs for the center caps.

    I wonder how many Tire and Wheel shops have had to "un-sell" their tires and wheels when the Prius owner saw what the wheels looked like without the wheel covers...LOL I bet by now they get pretty good at either distracting the customer or going really when they take them off.

    Just what we need. Another, this is my wife's Prius thread. Yet you are the one on PriusChat. Man up. I'm tired of these weak@$$ men that fight their wives' battles or are too afraid to admit it's really their Prius.

    I'm going to keep posting this for every similar thread I find just to prove my point. I won't even have to try hard.

    You should be excited about your new Prius, it's a different car! So what if your friends laugh, tell them that your saving gas for the muscle cars, tell them your driving a better future! I think the exterior looks will grow on you, it does with everyone. It's a distinct car. You can call it ugly, but it's efficient, so if you haven't noticed, every new car is starting to look like a Prius. You'll be pleased with the smooth, quiet dive of electric mode too, you'll also soon discover that you don't need 300hp to go get a gallon on milk and a loaf of bread, or to take the kids to school. 134hp is actually over-powered. I think the only time you need a car with over 300hp is when you are hauling something.

    I forgot to mention the all important FIRST car!

    a 1971 Datsun pickup- 1.2L (maybe 6 hp, LOL)

    I put N50s on the back and G50s on the front on Appliance Wire Wheels, pin-striped it with the stick on tape, put a plastic bubble sunroof in it, fiberglass fender flares and then a camper shell, wood paneling for the door panels. Now that was styling. Once I got done I sold it and made a cool $1,000 and bought a Jeep CJ5 with a Buick 225 cu.in. V6. (I told you I've had a lot of cars. I've still left out a bunch...a K5 Blazer, a Suburban, an Escalade, a Landcruiser, a 67 MGB GT, three Mercedes...)

    If I as 16 again, I'd absolutely be in love with a Prius. As I mentioned in a previous post, I had a Datsun pickup when I was 16. The Prius is miles and miles ahead of that vehicle in every way... and you're right, it does feel better driving the Prius during the week and not feeling guilty getting less than great MPG during the week ends.

    The smooth, quiet ride still freaks me out a bit. When I coast to a stop light and the engine shuts down I feel like it just stalled. My first reaction is "Oh, geez, do I have battery cables." Still not used to it.

    The only issue that I see so far is that now that we get such great mileage, we tend to drive more. We don't hesitate to crawl in a go to get a gallon of milk, while in the beasts, we try to combine trips.

    I've already admitted that the car is starting to grow on me. I'm learning to change my focus. I'm a person that likes to compete, even if it's with myself. Car are built for specific purposes like hauling, towing, speed in a straight line or speed on a road course. The Prius is built for mileage, so that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to see what kind of mileage I can get out of it. Just don't ask me how it handles, how much it hauls, how much it can tow, etc. At least it's now a generation 1 Honda Insight with those beautiful fender skirts!

    This might be a stupid Newbie question, but why isn't the word Prius in he spell check dictionary?

    Maybe you enthusiasts feel that the word command more respect that way?

    I'm tire of double checking my spelling every time I type it...LOL

    OK, now that was stupid. I added it to my spell check dictionary on my computer. I thought the site had the dictionary, not my computer.

    Haha, I understand. I'm sure it will take getting used to, but, to me at least, I like the thought of cruising through town in electric mode and knowing that I'm burning no gas and zero emissions are coming from my tail pipe. In traffic jams, other people sit there and waste gas, but not you! You'll be rejoicing because your MPG will rise! Did you know that your Prius is more aerodynamic than a Lamborghini? The Prius is very interesting in a lot of different ways, you can make any car fun. I like how the car can make thousands of choices and choose between electric drive, gasoline drive, or a mix of both for best performance.

    Yeah it's built for mileage but you're forgetting that at it's core, it's just a plain good car. It can do what every other car does, speed in a straight line etc when it needs to. You're just adding to the misconceptions and stereotypes.

    We don't mean to haze or "initiate" you here. There's been a lot of new buyers that still carry these stereotypes along with "it's my wife's car" excuses. You got caught up in the middle of that, but I didn't mean to single you out. I encourage you to continue to post here and read. Keep an open mind. You'll learn a lot and hopefully your opinions change even more over time.

    Cool, we need more people who are automotive enthusiasts instead of just hybrid enthusiasts.

    My other car is a C6 Corvette, they are both entertain to drive, just in different ways. You can stretch your driving capabilities in a Prius and not attract near the attention you do in a 400 hp car.:D

    A Prius doesn't have enough power or good enough handling to be entertaining in the primitive sense, but you can hone your skills at smoothly getting a decent level of performance out of a low powered average handling car. I have 15 inch wheels and haven't considered 17 inch. I think the 15 inchers are a decent performance match for the chassis.

    The C6 is a great car, one that's on my radar. Corvette has always been an amazing deal for the money. It competes with cars that cost 4x as much as does just fine. As a bonus, the highway mileage is decent too.

    I still have a lot of getting used to the Prius (ahhh, no more spell check). One thing that I didn't think of was handling in the rain. Wow, you can really tell it's light in the rain.

    I'm still considering the 17" wheels. I think they look much better on the V, but I'm not sure that I'm willing to sacrifice the MPG. After all, I have to compete with the in-laws. What else can we talk about over the holidays.

    there are decent 17" tires that shouldn't drop your mpg too bad. Look for models that feature LRR. You won't see quite the drop that I do because I chose sticky performance tires like a fool.
