Upon starting the car this AM, I have no speedometer, fuel level, or integrated MPG display indicators. The right hand side showing status of the HSD still works OK. This condition is unchanged by turning on the lights, or dimmer switch settings. Looks like at 860-miles since new my Prius is headed back to the dealership. Any advice about trouble shooting this myself? Many thanks.

There's been six to a dozen similar failrure reports on Prisuchat. Sometimes it's the left side, sometimes it's the right. In all cases the Dealership Did Right and replaced the malfunctioning parts.

There's also been a bunch of MFD's that have been subject, apparently, to water/mildew/mold that have also been fixed by dealerships when the problem cropped up.

Smile, and hope that this is the only problem you get with the car!

Many thanks. Its a good dealership and I know they will do the right thing. It is just a PITA to get the car there. I will post the outcome.

I presume there isn't anything on the dash obstructing the mirror.

You are correct, there is a clear view of the MFD window. Very odd for such a new car. At least the `miles till empty' display on the right side will help me not run out of gas. The touch tracer image does work on the left side but that is another display level in front of the base MFD, hence, there is nothing obstructing the display window. Thanks for the help.

I believe JimN was just advising you to look at the base of the display--it's actually reflected up to where you see it by a horizontal mirror. I don't know if the touch images are reflected, or not, but I expect they are. Worth checking that a piece of paper didn't slide on there, though, to avoid a trip.

I will try to obstruct the image with paper and see what happens. See also my most recent post...the MFD started working again. When I removed the map lenses (both of them), they were on the seat and not blocking the display.

Folks, I did have papers on the dash which I now believe slid down into the display binacle thereby covering the mirror. I did not know it worked this way but a previous post got me thinking. Therefore; problem solved thanks to all you folks. Great forum for a newbie like me!

The same issue came up on my 2010 Prius, but it was the the Right hand hand half that was the issue. I went out one evening last week and to my dismay, the right half of the MFD does not display. I too tried the dimmer switch with no sucess. When i started the car after returning to the car after shopping, the right half came on. This happened on successive days. Any way, my Prius is with the dealer for another issue and they are replacing the MFD on monday. From what i heard from the dealer, this is a very rare issue and there are only a handful of such incidents. I was also told that i am the first one in my region with this issue. So Toyota is actually in the process of doing further research why this is happening. I will let you know of the outcome

Does anybody know the price it is to have this fixed? Alot of people like me will be out of the warranty and i'm wondering what it costs.

I have repaired over 40 combination meter boards in the Gen II Prius, but none (yet) on the Gen III, but I bet they are repairable. If you are out of warranty and the only option is an expensive replacement unit, let me know maybe we can work something out for you being the first.

First make absolutely sure there is nothing up there in the dash! (parking receipt, etc)

I had the same issue, but mine is on the right side of the MFD. The dealer replaced it this week. It now seems that there are a lot of instances of this issue.
