I ordered my struts on a KYB outlet site. It's 4 KYB struts. However, I saw nothing about shocks.

    I'm so confused on shocks/struts..

Struts are shocks. ...Actually struts are shocks that also support part of the cars weight.

"An automotive suspension strut combines the primary function of a shock absorber (as a damper), with the ability to support sideways loads not along its axis of compression, somewhat similar to a sliding pillar suspension, thus eliminating the need for an upper suspension arm. This means that a strut must have a more rugged design, with mounting points near its middle for attachment of such loads."

Thus, the Prius has front struts and rear shocks.

If you mess with any of the orange wires, the Prius can produce a tremendous shock. The 12V system is unlikely to produce a shock unless you stick your tongue onto it (highly unrecommended). I find I often get shocks from touching the door frame after sliding out of the car.

    Hope this helps. ;)

I just ordered replacement parts yesterday, hope you got everything you need, here's what I got, the rear struts are the same, the front struts are different, so there's a left and right, you need the bushings for the top of the rear struts and the strut mounts for the front struts, and you need the boots that protect the struts from the elements.
The assembly is called a McPherson strut, it's a strut inside a spring, the whole assembly is removed from the car, the spring is compressed with a strut spring compressor and the strut is removed and the new one installed. After replacing the struts the vehicle has to be realigned.

Patrick Wong failed to mention that he has posted a very detailed write up on priuschat on how to change out the front struts and rear shocks. I used his info for my rear shocks (thanks Patrick).

Did my rear shocks yesterday. Not a hard job, but not a job for the faint of heart either as you've got to remove everything in the back of the car including the interior trim panels and the rear seat backs. Only thing I didn't take out was the traction battery and the spare tire. Took me just a bit over 4 hours to do the 2 rears.

Did you use stock shocks or upgraded?

KYB GR2's. Don't know if the OEM's had just worn out, or the GR2's really are stiffer, but she handles a lot better now.
