    Hi All.

    My wife wanted me to buy a new Camaro. It was certainly tempting however, I was use to some else paying for my gas (36 years of having my employers pay the tab). Now that I am semi retired and sort of looking toward part time self employment, I have to pay my own tab. The Camaro was appealing with a 305 HP V6 engine that would get about 30 MPH on the Fwy and at a reasonable price. Several folks I had worked with raved about their earlier generation Prius. With gas prices rising and predictions upwards of $5.00 per gallon, I decided to compare the Prius with other autos. I had no idea Prius was rated at 51 and 48. Also, I couldn't beat financing at less then 1%. I do like the car (although I am not use to keyless and some of the other technology.

    I do have one question, does the IPOD connect in the glove compartment also charge the IPOD? It would certainly be nice if it would.

    Welcome aboard! I am sure you will enjoy your Prius despite the HP difference.

    Not sure about the IPOD question.

    No it does not charge it. It simply plugs into the headphones jack.

    The new Camaro is pretty sweet and the Hp output on the V6 is nice but be careful when looking at freeway only gas mileage. Many people only consider freeway mileage when doing comparisons and then end up disappointed when reality kicks in and combined MPG takes over their wallet. This is especially true for high hp cars because you are more likely to drive them more aggressively than the Prius this getting even worse mpg.

    I used to race a 2000 Trans Am and it could pull down 30mpg on the freeway but average mpg was closer to 24mpg with mixed driving.

    Congrats on your new Prius. You could always put a Camaro emblem on the front of your Prius. Even though you know it's not a Camaro, others might be fooled...lol

    Enjoy the fuel savings.

    Yup - l looked up the number for the Camaro. It's funny that Chevy only advertised the highway number of 29mpg:

    However, it gets a whopping 17mpg in the city:

    I would guess this would shake out to around 22-24mpg overall if you are very lucky. The Prius will do 50mpg combined, so there really is no comparison in terms of fuel economy.

    That sounds about right. My car started averaging 19mpg after modifying it but considering how hard I drove it and the extent of the mods that wasn't too bad. The Prius is MUCH more fuel efficient and more relaxing to drive but I can't do big smoky burnouts and impress the chicks. :p
