    Dustoff,

Congratulations. Do you know if the tinting interferes with the radio or navigation system.

    Thanks

    Hal

    And congratulations again!

That's cool I kinda figured that you may have switched it once I noticed that you were a moderator. Yep it does say V but like someone else mentioned in another thread you can't tell the difference between the writen V, or Five when spoken. Kinda silly if you ask me. Toyota Hawaii is there own animal that's probably why the sticker said V. Are the cars on the mainland labeled as Two thru Five? Aloha!, Ed

    Drive it in good health.

PS Does your model have the turn signals on the outside mirrors?

Re: Took home my new 2011 Prius V today

Thanks for the Congradulations. As far as I know the tinting would only interfere with devices inside the cabin of the car, like your mobile phone or a portable GPS unit without an external antenna. The Priuses antenna(s) are mounted on the aft roof prior to the hatch. I wrote antennas because I am assuming that it is a combination Radio/GPS antenna. Now gettting back to the tint and interference issue your standard metallic tint film does restrict RF signal into or out of the car, due to it being metallic. I chose a Llumar ceramic tint film to lessen or avoid all together any interference or signal loss due to the tinting. The ceramic film is only on the side and rear windows, the windshield is tinted with Llumar Air Blue 80 I am not sure of it's composition. Hope that this helps if not read some of the tinting threads or check the film manufactures website. Aloha, Ed and Semper Fi right back at ya from an Army guy!

Can you take a picture of the window sticker with options and pricing. I realize that Hawaii Toyota is not part of Toyota USA but the Prius gotta come from somewhere. If your Prius isn't equipped with LKA but has DRCC, does that mean the steering wheel's right lower spoke has onle 1 button?

I had to go outside and look for ya, no it does not. Would be nice if it did! Why that is not standard on all cars I don't know, it enhances both safety and style.

    Aloha,

My wheel has a blank cover where the LKA button should be, right below the DRCC distance selector button. I took a picture and will upload it later when I go back in the house and sync my phone. As far as the Prius coming from somewhere it is from Japan. I would assume that all I would have to add to my car to have LKA would probably be the camera and a computer of some sort? I think the rest of the components are common to both the APGS and the DRCC? Aloha, Ed

I have no idea. We'll have to wait til more 2011 owners show up.

So if you don't have LKA, are the prices a tad lower for the top model than on the mainland?

I read that some Prius were being made in Thailand, I fact checked that and Prius are being manufactured in Thailand but only for the Asian market.

My car is from the Hawaiian market, SERVCO Pacific Inc. is their own import and distribution company. Port of Entry on Monroney is Honolulu, HI.

Wow, HI is actually one of the most perfect places to drive Prius since it never snows or gets cold over there. Perfect for maintaining good MPG. Oh, I miss that place, so beautiful to drive around the island! Anyway, congratulations Ed and mahalo for the pictures! :)

Re: Took home my new 2011 Prius Five today

Yes it is not a bad place to drive when there is no traffic. My daily commute is from Waianae to Wahiawa about 25 miles. In the morning from Kapolei to the H1/H2 interchange is usually bumper to bumper stop and go traffic. Then I have to try and climb up the H2 I keep the car in ECO mode but my sliding scale on the Hybrid System Indicator dips in to PWR not to good on the net MPG's. Inversely it is downhill on the way home. We do have quite a but of snow right now on the mountains but is all on the Island of Hawaii (The Big Island). We have been having allot of rain for the last couple of weeks and my new very dirty Prius needs a washing. I hope that you make it back here to the Islands to drive another day.

    Aloha, Ed

Re: Took home my new 2011 Prius Five today

I might be wrong but LKA is not available in Hawaii because there are no roads to take advantage of it. LKA is meant to be driven on a straight road at highway speed. It handles curves well but it will not steer for you going into a curve. If you let go of the steering wheel right before the curve begins, LKA will keep the Prius straight until the curve starts. Then, the LKA warning beeps as the Prius starts to drift out of the lane. The LKA then tries to correct itself but most of the time it wont work and just cancels out. Now, if you keep in the center of the lane while the road curves then let go of the steering wheel, the LKA will hold the steering wheel position relative to the curve of the road but eventually it wont hold it and drifts to the lane marker. The LKA beeps and tries to correct itself but ends up canceling the LKA.

I sure hope so too! I mostly drove on kam hwy either to kaneohe or millilani and loved driving to Kaneohe as you get to drive along the shore for a while! And yes I do remember how busy h1/h2 was but at least people on them were a lot more friendlier and relaxed than the ones you'll find here on UT freeways! :)

Re: Took home my new 2011 Prius Five today

Yeah maybe so who knows I sure don't. Hawaii is not like Texas or Florida with nice long straight flat roads, but it would be nice to have every option. I don't know if the Prius and I are staying in the Islands forever. The funny thing is the way SERVCO orders the cars I could not get LKA even if I wanted to as an option. They decide the options packages and thats what you can get. A couple of my buddies at work were mesmerized by the APGS and the fact that it works. I do not drink nor do I drink or drive or condone it, but one of them said that a Prius with the AT package is a drunk drivers dream. I agreed but like I said those days are behind me. I think in my lifetime we will be like the Jetson's in our sky-scooters and the Prius is as close to that as we can get for now.

Re: Took home my new 2011 Prius Five today

Two week update. I have put 1073 miles on the car, and am loving it allot. I have been getting good MPG from what I gather. Fueled the car twice now, but am on my third tank of fuel because it came with a full tank from the dealer. Tank 1 MID Cons. 57.7, manual division method 54.1, Tank 2 MID Cons. 55.4, MDM 53.3. We have E10 fuel here in the islands, pumps say may contain up to 10% Ethanol. I also decided to do an early oil change today, changed oil and filter, serviced with 4 quarts and 12.8 ounces of Mobil1 0W-20 oil. The old oil looked smelled and tasted okay probably did not need to be changed early. Toyota can do it next time in 5k then I will go to the 10k service schedule. Last Saturday I checked my tire pressures my car has the P215/45R17 tires, pressures were LF 36psi, LR 36psi, RF 37psi, RR 35psi from the dealer. I brought them all up to 40 psi and it is a little stiff and bouncy. I will leave the pressure at 40 psi for now or until after the next fueling to see if the higher pressure will increase MPG's.

Ordered my Husky Liner WeatherBeater mats from huskyliners.com/ on 1-14-11 they arrived yesterday the 21st. They fit like champs I went with Black in the front and second row, got a grey liner for the cargo area. Now I don't have to worry about muddy or wet shoes anymore. I also washed the car today first time, it was amazing how dirty it was but it's back to Blizzard Pearl again.

Nice. I do like the driver's side that covers the "dead pedal" and the rear that covers the entire width of the floor.

Re: Took home my new 2011 Prius V today

It is strange to know such a package is available on Advance Technology Package with no LKA. Do the Option V come with no Auto Parking Assistance too?
To share the driving experience of Advance Technology Package, I have the following observations
    1. Drive with Radar Assist Keep one car distance and be alert on the other cars cutting into the one car space too. If you keep the three car space. Rest assured hundreds of people will cut into you. With one car space and the continuous beep when the front car is close enough for you to break and disengage the Radar control. Otherwise it is a wonderful experience to be on a free way much relaxed.
    2. Lane Keep Assistance works with Radar Assist in keeping to the lane. The Steering wheel icon which appears when computer is controlling the car to keep in the lane is accompanied with thick two white lanes. It does try to over correct on curves on the freeway as well as road contour which tries to push you out of the lane. Thin white lines and no steering wheel icon, computer is not controlling your car. Next great thing is the link of the LKA with turn signal. When you try to change lane with your turn signal ON, the lane keep is temporarily disabled.

I think I gotta change my thread title.

It's been three months now and I am over 5k miles I just brought her back to the dealer yesterday 20110404 for the 5k mile maintenance servicing at 5656 miles. We have our own version of Toyota Care here it is Toyota Hawaii Care it is 2 years or 20k miles what ever comes first. So that is basically 4 each 5k mile services. They rotated the tires, lubed, serviced, and inspected the car. I decided to go with the 10k mile oil change interval due to the synthetic 0W-20 oil and the fact I changed the oil at 1075 miles.

    Aloha,

    ED
