Question: Dome light wiring for side mirrors courtesy lights

I searched but what I found was for Gen2 that had an designated socket for dome lights. I am trying to find the power source under the dash panel for the dome lights on Gen3. I want to connect the add-on courtesy lights underneath both side mirrors so that when I walk up near the car with my FOB, those lights will turn on along with the interior dome lights. I tried to look it up myself but had no luck. I have a feeling that I may fry the circuit if I keep doing it without any help. Any idea?

 

haha.... I'm afraid I'll have to answer my own question. Since I couldn't find the wire for dome lights, I traveled the extra mile to connect power from the rear dome light. Ran a set of wires between the roof and ceiling lining to the driver's side. Undid the weather door seals, took apart the seat belt plastic moldings, safely passed the curtain air bags and went along side on the door sill into the foot panel. Then, fed power to the side mirrors. Every done in an hour. Faster and easier than looking for the crazy dome lights wires from the panel. That's all.

 

Sure will post some pictures when they are done. I have been getting everything ready for the installation. I can't wait to receive them from mail. BTW, I actually asked my mom to buy those for me from Hong Kong (those are made in Taiwan with the mirror plastic covers w/o paint). I don't know the quality but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

 

Really?! I think I just missed the chance to purchase them off from eBay USA. I have been looking for them since August 2010. I spoke many different people oversea and finally got a pair from Yahoo auction. He didn't want to ship international, so I asked my mother to pick them up for me and shipped them over. What an hassle!? Good thing is, he painted (professionally) for me for like additional ~US$80. Can never do that in the US (quoted for at least $250 for those 2 little pieces of plastic. Crazy!)

 

I don't know the location of the store. The guy was nice enough to meet my mom near her home after the mirror covers were painted. If you want his info PM me.

 

Didn't have much finding the dome light wires under the dash, but after a long wait, these finally showed up in my mailbox!!! (except the cat)




LED amber signal light


3 wires (red, blue, blk) to signal & parking combo lights. Blk & wht to courtesy light.


This one lights up with the parking light & turns off automatically when amber signal is active. Amazing! Can't wait to hook them up!!! I'm so excited!!!! Best Valentine's day gift ever!!! (even mom!)

Signal wiring:
Left turn signal wrie: Yellow


Right turn signal wire: Green

 

haha!!! Got the passenger's side installed. Driver's side hopefully can be done on weekend (if it doesn't rain!)

 

I just finished putting up the driver's side today and I hope I can finish up the wiring tomorrow. The parking light is quite dim and mainly for decoration purpose. The 6 LEDs located on the bottom are bright enough to become a functional courtesy light. I have been taking pictures throughout the project and I will keep you posted once I get it done!

 

Alright! I finally got them done! I have taken a video and hopefully it gives you some idea how they work! They are brighter in reality than in the video.

 

I know a guy who carries those light back in Hong Kong. Those are not OEM items and are made in Taiwan. There isn't any of those available online here in the US except from Sigma automotive (which was used OEM) Quality is excellent and I like them alot.
