I own a 2008 Toyota Prius and I am getting really bad MPG, only getting about 23 -26 MPG. Toyota wont look at it if the engine check light is not on. I am so frustrated; i bought this car because i got a job that is a far commute for me. I had a 2007 Honda hybrid that got 40 mpg, i am really unhappy with the prius. I don’t know if i am doing anything wrong, I drive in the D mode not the B mode. can anyone help me. I do have one low tire but i can’t believe that can cause me to lose 10 mpg. I had the worst car deal of the century, i had a real bad episode with my minears disease the day i bought the car , in fact the first dealer i went to turned me away and said come back another day. i just drove to a further location and they were glad to take advantage of me. I was stumbling and fell twice in the showroom, was pulled over by the police after leaving the showroom about 4 blocks i had symptoms of being drunk, they did a breathalyzer on me and passed with no indication of alcohol or drugs in me. They took a blood test at the scene and still no indications of being intoxicated. they called me a cab and i had to leave my car and sister came later to pick it up. Magic Toyota charged me 10,000 more than i would have ever paid for a car. i didn’t even have a job at the time. Anyway, i was of course very upset about the rip off of a deal and tried to cancel the loan and give the car back but they would not. In fact when i went back to the dealer to get my second key made they had my car all day, about 5 hours. They had it in a garage at another location and kept saying they didn’t know where my car was. In frustration i got very angry and started to yell. They finally located my car, and low and behold my second key, only now the key doesn’t open up when you walk up to the car, you have to push the key. When before all i had to do was walk up to my car and the door would unlock without pushing the key button. After that visit my mpg went way down. They said they called the police because i was so mad and i can’t go back to that dealer. I think they deliberately sabatoshed my car to get bad mpg. I am stuck with a so called economy car at 475 a month for 5 years and it get about only 22-25 mpg. I don’t know what to do. How the heck does anybody get more than 25 mpg? Any ideas??:(

Ideas? Yes, if you had a working car and no job you should have kept the old car.

And yes, the low tire is killing the fuel economy. If it has a leak get it repaired or replaced before it kills you.

    Possible hardware problems

    1. Tire Pressure 42 Lbs in front, 40 Lbs in rear.

    2. Check the 12 volt battery. http://priuschat.com/forums/newbie-forum/73400-weird-stuff-happening-mpgs-dropping-test-battery.html

3 Be sure the emergency brake is really disengaged.

    4. Be sure the oil level is under 'full'

    Possible owner problems

    1. Have you filled the gas and reset the computers and trip meters since you got the car?

2 How far is your average trip? The Prius excels as a long trip tourer.

3 Drive like you had no brakes: Coast to lights, stop signs, etc. allow room from the car in front of you in city traffic, only draft at highway speeds.

    4. Factor in weather: Any car hates cold and rain, and heat above 90, you will get your best mileage in July and August*

    * Western Washington weather report: Starting the Thursday before the first High school football game, it will rain. It will keep raining until December 27, (missing a white Christmas) then snow one day. (if the wind is from the east, it will last a week) Then it will rain until the 5th of July, spoiling fireworks. Repeat each year. For extra credit, WDOT sinks a floating bridge about every 10 years, at Thanksgiving.

    -- off topic diversion --
We missed a clean sweep last year. One minor holiday (Columbus Day?) was dry.
After missing one periodic sinking, Mother Nature diversified by trying to collapse the Alaskan Way Viaduct with an earthquake. It came within an inch or two of succeeding. Now it is a race to see which fails first -- that viaduct, or the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge.

We missed witnessing the I-90 Sinking Bridge by a flip of a coin, crossing on the other bridge instead. If not for that, we'd have witnessed it up close from the parallel bridge before they could have closed it.

-- OK, back to topic --

Who in their right mind would think it would be a good idea to buy a car on a bad day of their minears disease?

It's possible that you unwittingly purchased a Highlander that someone had glued a Prius logo onto.

Sounds like a path to cancellation of the contract due to legal incompetency.

PS. This path should be explored because this state is more protective of medical impairments than others. Twice in the past two years, I have received medical treatment or tests that rendered me legally unable to sign binding contracts for 24 hours. Had I purchased a car in the afternoon of either day, the seller and/or finance agency would been legally unable to enforce the contract.

Perhaps OP should contact a lawyer to see if certain untreated medical episodes can receive the same protection.

In at least one high profile case, multiple salesfolk at a West Seattle dealership were prosecuted for taking advantage of an elderly man with obvious competency problems, and the dealership owners (not sure if it was new or old ones) were held financially accountable.

If this story is real, it would also be prime fodder for a 'Get Jesse' segment by Jesse Jones of local KING-5 TV. Unfortunately, he is on medical leave.

Can you remember how many miles you'd done and how many MPG's you were getting prior to this yoda9953?

I know I'm a grumpy cynical type but could this be YET another troll?

Is there any way of making it harder to become a member or at least be more proactive in deleting nonsense posts? If this OP is for real then he needs to seek professional help - not the advice of Prius owners!

I can say with certainty that the OP is not a troll.

I have been able to confirm off-forum that the post is real.

    She emailed,
"This is no joke, I will visit the post this afternoon, thanks."

I do not know any further details ATT.

    yoda9953,

I hope that you've read this far.
    :welcome: to PRIUSchat :cheer2:
Some of our members have been a little rough on
your post, but I am confident that it will not apply to
you. Real folks with real problems get real help here.

    Let's forget everything but JimboPalmer's post #4.
What can you say about the points that he raises?

Well yes, first off I edited your post, now it makes some sense. everythng deleted is T.M.I, and not germane to the info you seek.

Read post #4, re-read post #4, re-re-read post #4, then if you have a question, ask it, just leave out EVERYTHING not pertaining to the specfic question you want answered!

T.M.I. is a terrible thing to impose upon someone!!![IMG]

IMHO, there's no point in us spending any more effort on this until the OP comes back and answers the questions I posed in post #5.

People who want help need to at least give us enough info instead of us repeatedly spending the time to type up replies where we throw out ideas, guesses, etc.

My final and only comment, I have decided not to go to any future chat rooms. All i ever get are condesending remarks on my ability to deciifer the new language of the internet. I don't own a cell phone, simply because it cost to much, and I don't know how to use them.
Every time i go to these chat rooms i get critized on how to use the web site, sorry i dont know the FL. OMG, LOL, I AM SO SORRY I AM NOT AS SMART AS ALL OF YOU, BUT AT LEAST I KNOW WHEN TO BE RUDE AND WHEN NOT TO,. NONE OF YOU WERE HELPFULL, DO YOU ALL WORK FOR TOYOTA?
I am a 57 year old widow, and live on a very limited budget. I have to go back to work to pay for a car I absolutley hate. I hate the deal that they gave me, or should say how the ripped me off from. Yes, and by the way, when you have a menears attack you are not aware that you are having them. I was not in my right mind and from falling in there showroom they should have sent me home, instead of taking advantage of the situation and selling me a car for way more than what it is worth. I will never ever buy another toyota product again in my life and will not recomend them to any one. In fact i will direct anyone i hear from buying another Toyota product. because not only did the dealer rip me off so did there national headquarters. I cant even go back to the dealer to get the car fixed even if it is the battery. They are sharleltons, all of them, shame on all Toyota sales people and the dealers.
HAVE FUN WITH THIS ONE FOLKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
