For no good reason, I decided to download and install Fedora14 in VirtualBox. I can't get the Guest Additions to load. I've searched the net and have found some promising guides but none have worked. I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

    Here's the techie details:
    VirtualBox version 3.2.12 r68302
    running on
    Mac OS X version 10.6.6
    hosting
    Fedora 14 Kernel Linux 2.6.35.6

I can mount the GuestAdditions CD in the Fedora environment but nothing will run. Either it's non-responsive or it throws an error.

It's pretty specific, but is anyone running the same or similar?

Tony I abandoned fedora for ubuntu. I'm a long time redhat and fedora fan but the ease of use of ubuntu out of the box won me over. You may want to try ubuntu t see if you get better results. I've been running ubuntu since november of 2009 and have been happy since.

Shoot, I barely use any space on my iMac hard drive so dedicating another several GB to a new guest OS is no problem. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

p.s. I was exclusively thinking of you as I was trying to figure this out.

Use Ubuntu. Btw, VirtualBox 4.0 is out, so upgrade before you install.

Thanks but too late. Installed last night.
I have Ubuntu installed and the Guest Additions. So far I've just poked around. It's not like I need another OS on my computer, it's just that I decided to install a linux-based OS just to poke around with.
This brings my OS list to:
    OS X - host OS
WinXP - for those lingering Windows apps I can't live without
Win7 - for testing and checking out
Fedora - installed but no guest applications
    Ubuntu - installed last night

It's not too late. You can upgrade to 4.0 without losing your existing VMs. Generally VirtualBox requires you to uninstall the old version before reinstalling a new version when going from one major release to another. Minor release changes can be done in place.

All that said, there isn't any compelling reason to upgrade if you are just playing around.

Late to the game, but I had no problems installing Fedora 14 64bit in my virtualbox on my OS X 10.6.6 powerbook.

I'm wondering what settings you used that it didn't work..

I don't know if this is what you're asking for but this is what VB says about the image.
