The color of the in dash display seems faded on my 2010 prius.
Has anyone else noted this? The area just to the right of the speedometer where it displays things like the energy monitor and such, the reds seem very pale compared to the rest of the display. Is this normal?? Is this covered by the warranty?

Seems normal to me as mine is the same. I also appear to get a little 'burn in' too.

    It still works ok though.

That'll be the VFD (vacuum fluorescent display). The red is hard to see to begin with and some times there are numbers that should be green but are red/pink because they're rarely used.

Are you saying the arrows from the engine to the wheels (which are supposed to be red) are pink?

Having rented a 2010 while my baby was getting new paint, I have to say I really missed the Gen II MFD! I thought the "New" VFD well, I hate to say this, sucked! It really made my mind up, if my car was totaled, I would more than likely replace it with low mileage 2009. I have to take a pass on the Gen III, unless you could retofit a Gen II MFD Display into a Gen III, not holding my breath on this!

Well the Prius v will have it back on the main MFD (but probably only on nav-equipped models) so it's possible the updated Prius will have that too.

So is that the basis of the big debate we had a while ago where some of us argue the top (8th) bar of the battery meter is salmon color where others insist it's green? I suppose it becomes green if you hit it frequently enough.

No, I am saying that the "Hybrid System Indicator" screen has a red bar for power labeled pwr and a red bar above it. Both appear to be a darker faded red than the other parts of the display and as the center between "chg" and "pwr" fills, it is not a smooth line, but a pattern that seems to be divided in half. Not sure if this is how it's supposed to look.
I found a picture on the Prius site that seems to look a bit like what I think it should look like, posted below. Is this how your's looks or is this a doctored graphic used for marketing?

On my new Prius, the colors came faded to the point I didn't realize it wasn't monochrome until I looked very carefully.

Seems like Ford Fusion Hybrids, Chevy Volts, Nissan Leafs, et al., have snazzy colorific displays galore, while the display on a Gen III Prius looks to be a major cost saving measure.

    froSTed,
The greens in your thumbnails are greener than they've ever been in my car.

If, however, you noticed a sudden fading, consider the possibility, however remote, that your left knee accidentally knocked the little wheel controlling the brightness of the instrumentation and mfd displays from its brightly-on position to the night-time adjustable brightness position, and moved the brightness down a bit.

It's an adjustable thing that I didn't know was adjustable for a while after I got my Gen III.

    Thank You ALL!
So the posted pics on Toyota's site are just a marketing tool. Good thing there is nothing wrong with my car. Does anyone have any tips for getting better gas mileage in the city? When I drive long distances I get really great gas mileage but in the city it dips to around 42-45.

Well, the HSI on mine never looked like that. As the "gauge" goes from Battery to ICE in the middle there's no color change. But other than that one I see no differences. ??

Pretty much. We thought it was colour-coded like it was in the Gen 2 but it turns out, it was just a side-effect of the VFD.

I also believe I saw a split screen (Energy Monitor/nav) as well in an intro video/walk-around.

Wow, that looks pretty damn sharp! I'm sure mine isn't that sharp.
