First post here! Picked up a 2010 Prius IV in Winter Gray yesterday and drove it home from the dealer (about 80 miles) and got 44.5 MPG (indicated). Not bad for cold Michigan driving! (I actually owned an 07 Camry Hybrid for 3 years and missed the hybrid driving "experience" so I went for a Prius). On another note - I used to hang out in the greenhybrid forums when I had that car, but when I checked back in the other day, the Toyota forum was gone?? Not sure what's up with that... Anyway, I was just curious - I am wondering what you all use the center stack storage area for (the one under the "bridge"). I am coming from a vehicle with Nav (08 Accord), and I took my wife's Garmin to keep in my car (she just got a car with Nav). The center stack storage seemed like an obvious place to keep it when not in use, but it is very visible there! Seems like an invitation to thieves. I was thinking it would be cool if there was some kind of aftermarket "curtain" that you could put on the sides of this area to conceal what is in there. Anyway - just wondered if anyone came up with some novel uses for that space. Thanks Jeff
:welcome: Welcome to PC and congrats on your new Prius! I've had mine since Nov 2010 and I love the console storage cubby. I keep my remote for the gate into my community, a pen and calendar book to record my daily mileage for business, business cards, etc. I try to keep it clean and somewhat organized so it doesn't end up looking a receptable where I just throw stuff in. Things I don't keep there; money, keys, credit cards (always with me and not kept in car anyway). Basically, I use the space for stuff I need to use everyday - everything else should be kept elsewhere. Anything I think should be out of sight is thrown into the storage under the center armrest.
Congrats on your new Prius and welcome to PriusChat. I appreciate your question, since I've wondered what to do with the space, Until I come up with something better, I use it as a litter box for my cat. LOL
GPS. I don't really use that space. The most frustrating thing about the space under the console for my wife is that it's not quite big enough to fit her purse comfortably. She'd have to put it sideways and her purse has open/weakly sealed compartments so she'd want it to sit vertically. I wouldn't want to put anything in that could come out (and therefore get in the way of the gas pedal). So anything solid and bulky is out. A sliding door would be handy.
Another thing I noticed (when I moved all the change from the Accord to the Prius) - no "change cup"! That is a bummer - as much as I hate dealing with change (especially pennies), now it will be worse when I go to a drive thru and have no place to put that change!
Sometimes I use it for the fob when I don't want it on me. Otherwise it's empty for the new-car-non-cluttered-look. Love the idea of being able to enclose it!
sunglasses gloves sometimes iphone On trips it becomes the secondary charging station for electronics. It is okay and looks cool too bad the arm rest bucket isn't easier to organize. If allowed to it bemes just full of stuff with no order possible. A weathertech rubber molded liner for the glove box would be great to cut down on rattles if any actually come from glove compartment contents anyway. Love the car overall just little things that would be nice. Josh
There is a cup holder in the center console I use for change. There is a thread for uses of the storage area. Use the search function. Welcome aboard!
I put my change in the cup holder inside the center console armrest. With the cover closed, it's also quiet.
Interesting idea! I might give that a try - I actually have a package of gum like that in my car right now - never occurred to me to turn it into a change holder. Thanks!
You are right do not leave anything insight. Had a friend who had there window broke for a cell phone charger cord! It's a great catch all for the things I want to take with me. cell phone, ipod, lunch bag,gloves,hat,on..on...
The ridge of the storage makes a great place to clip my garage remote.: it's a perfect arms length reach and keeps the remote from cluttering my view on the visor.
I cut a clear plastic cup in half to be about 3" tall, put a little piece of velcro to the bottom of it and stuck it to the carpet in the console. Works like a charm; doesn't move around, allows me to use all cup holders, and is easy to access.
I use it to hold a tissue box and gloves (in the winter) or sunglasses (in the summer. I have the solar roof so I don't have the overhead sunglass holder). I also use it to hold take out (instead of leaving the hot food on the leather) or a travel bag. There is a Toyota Japan accessory for that storage area. It's ¥13,650
Wow - I guess great minds thing alike But that door looks to small for me. And that is pretty steep for a plastic door!
