What To Do When Getting A New Prius

Got mine early December and my Porsche 911 is gathering dust. Once you get settled in consider getting a Scan Gauge II. Search various threads...@ $145 at Amazon. It adds fun to the "driving a video game" sensation that is part of the Prius experience. Also gives you a LOT of useful data that will help your mileage and general understanding of what's going on. Plus you can modify some things to your liking such as changing backup beep to one vs continuous, and kill (maybe I should say 'silence'? But wait, that may conjure up a silencer on a gun and upset people even more; oh well... ) the seatbelt beeps.

Enjoy...I averaged 75 mpg today on admittedly mileage favourable roads, but I wasn't aggressively hypermiling...

 

I prefer to buy from the dealer where I will get the car serviced. Then if I have a problem with the service dept., I believe I might have a little more leverage in having a complaint resolved.

If his deal was THAT good, maybe it was worth it. It would have to be a super deal for me to bother.

The 900 miles you drove to save $500? With all due respect, I think that's nuts, UNLESS it was a special bike you couldn't find closer. If it was 900 miles one-way, that's REALLY nuts! LOL!

I'm in Northern VA and bought a car on Ebay from a Houston Lexus dealer, but that was special. It was a used 2001 BMW 330Cic that I bought in 2005 with only 1,600 miles on it. The price was on the high end of a fair range but it was a nearly new car in near perfect condition. I paid $750 to have it shipped. That's still my favorite car, especially in top-down weather.

 

That depends on how much you value $500. Actually, I saved $1200 on the motorcycle deal, and it was 462 miles one-way. After I backed out all of the costs for the weekend road trip---including a notional figure for my time, I figured out quite conservatively that I 'really' saved $500. I did offer my local dealership the opportunity to come to within $500 on the price of the bike, and they said I was full of Bravo-Sierra. I disabused them of this notion by showing them the paperwork after I returned.
500 bucks might not be worth the hassle to most folks---but It's worth it to me.

Look around.
The price differences for Priuses are really quite large depending on dealer and state, and my estimation of the integrity of the 3 Toyota dealerships in my area does not warrant my spending the extra money just to buy local. (if in fact they cannot match the lowest price I find---I always give them a chance!)

I respect the notion of establishing and maintaining a long and loving relationship with your dealer---but I no longer subscribe to it myself.
