Pilot's preference

    There seem to be several pilots here on PC, so I thought I'd start a thread about our (I'm considering even myself as one) strange likes, like the $100 hamburger mentioned in another thread.
    While I am not a licensed pilot, I have had some fun in private planes. My brother is licensed, worked his way through college as an instructor as did my roommate in academy. I personally have owned a weight shift ultralight as well as a PPG (powered para glider). I also had a co worked that owned some Russian acrobatic plane. We exchanged rides. He took me for a ride doing barrel roles and the likes while I took him for a spin, no make that instructional first flight, in my delta wing ultra light (before sport pilot, so it was legal). I guess the most fun I ever had was when I came across a pack of coyotes from about 1500' AGL. They must have thought hawk on steroids. Tail between their legs..., now that was fun. I also enjoyed flying P&G in my ultralight, pulse to 6000' and see how long I could glide before touching back down at the air strip. I miss my ultralights!!!

    These are some pics from a long time ago. The first one is my friend Phil and I when we went to Oshkosh in 1974. I worked for Conn. Mooney Sales and we took the first M20C made when Mooney started up production again in 1974. The second is good old N6008W it was Phil and I first airplane we owned it was a 1964 Cherokee 140, the 8th one of the assembly line. The third is N9398V then it was a new 1970 M20E. It's the plane I got my Private Pilots license in when I turned 17.

    ^That looks like soooo much fun Tom. Quite a few up this way but they only seem to fly in the summer. :)

    Yeah Spidy, most fun I've had since I gave up mud puddles.
    Is anyone watching the golf on CBS right now? I love all the Paragliders and occasional Hangglider in the background.

    ^ You have given up mud puddles?

    There a many paragliders that jump off the mountains near us all summer long. They enjoy the thermals that develop around the mountains.

    It's "thermals" not "thermos" - but I admit the correct term doesn't make the sentence nearly as much fun when the activity involved includes the rule: "Eight feet from bottle to throttle" :p
