    Excluding the 0 miles trips (figured it was you showing off, haha), 11 out of 15 trips can be covered by PHV Prius. Those are the MPG killers that is really worth using electricity from the plug.

    Most accidents occur within a few miles from home. That's because most of the trips are within a few miles from home.

    ya but problem is the trips are

    leave home; go to school stop pick up Ry.
    leave school; go to Costco park buy
    leave Costco; go to lunch
    leave lunch (sorry fast food embarrassment prevents any other details) go to Walgrens, pickup prescription. did not turn off car, so continue on to Target. stop
    leave Target, head home.

    so Plug in would be exhausted. So, the Prius stays. but it will not have as much mileage as before as the Leaf will be doing the "long" commute as least once a week and family trips only when its too far for the Leaf (about 10 times a year)

    Well, the most of our lives part can really vary a lot depending on the errands, job, and commute. When I was back in CA, for the 1st 4 years, my typical workday would be a ~24 mile drive to work, ~18-20 mile drive on the way home w/a stop to grab something to eat, and then another 5-7 miles to get home.

    Up here in WA now, most of my drives are very short and an EV would be great but I'm not in the market for a car (and there are some side reasons) and live in an apartment so I don't have great charging choices. It'd be 120 volt charging, if I can get the right parking spots (it'll be uncovered) and then I'd snake a cord out from my balcony.

    I'm looking forward to hearing more about it.

    There are a lot of dynamics that can affect the actual time frame. For someone with a light foot on braking that begins braking early and uses mostly regen with only a little friction braking, the disks could last a long time and the brake fluid would not heat up very much. This should cause the life of the fluid to last longer. As for the "30K" miles, it depends on how much you drive. Some people may take ten years to go 30K miles and others may drive 30K miles in less than a year. I'm very surprised by the "30K" instead of saying "3 years or 30K, whichever comes first."

    Most of the braking will be done by the regen brake so there will be minimal frictional pad usage, less so than the Prius.

    That's where opportunity chargings become beneficial. PHV Prius charges from 110V plug in 3 hours. It gives 5 to 6 miles EV range in an hour or about 3 miles in half an hour.

    That's only if the plug is available. 110V plugs should be more available than 220 high voltage ones.

    Of course you can do the same with your Leaf.

    A feature of the MFD. living this far north the angle of the Sun can be severe and make the screen impossible to see in late afternoon summers here,

    the Leaf has 3 different angle settings. may not work for all situations but will definitely find out when the Sun returns to the Pacific Northwest

    Or the non-factory Toyota nav units (also, some of the Toyota "lite" nav units are like that.. think Corolla or Matrix units).

    Taking a trip? multiple stops (some to charge!!) and wanting to make sure that you dont get lost?

    Carwings allows you to plan a trip from your home computer and transfer the data for the trip wirelessly from your computer to your Leaf using the AT&T network...

    OH NO!! AT&T!! what if you live in an area where the AT&T network has been rendered useless by a new i phone app??

    no worries!! you can also input data into the NAV system by SD card. (am also hoping that we will be offered NAV updates this way as well!)

    in the pic, the slot on the right is the NAV SD (which should not be removed) and the slot on the left is the SD slot for inputting additional info..

    the new I pod too spendy?? well the SD card can also store music as well

    A question from the article. It mentions Washington charging stations. Are they building stations that can charge the leaf in 30 minutes, or are they slower? Do you expect to use them, or drive the prius when going further than range.

    Thanks for the information.

    Dave, can you give a rough number of miles you are putting on the Leaf vs. the Prius now? I was just wondering if it is 50:50, 75:25 or something like that.

    it should be about 50/50. the Prius does the 60 mile RT 4-5 times a week. should have the Leaf doing that at least once a week. other than that, the car is rarely driven.

    our only day off together is Saturday and that has been done in the Leaf so far. now, we have not ventured out of town and those occasions like Seattle, we will take the Prius.

    Sunday is clean day so she rarely goes anywhere on that day.

    right now the ratio is 60/40 Leaf but once again because we have not gone out of town and that will change. tomorrow i am going to Renton (out of town) in the Leaf for an owners meet. so that means the Prius will most likely do something. my Son has swim class every saturday and the Leaf wont be home to do that one.

    they are doing 50 of the Quick charge stations and initially 2500 of the 220 volt ones not counting the ones located at the Nissan dealerships. the quick charge stations will be spread out along I-5 to where you could conceivably drive from Canada to Oregon in your Leaf.

    my area already has a few dozen 110 volt charging stations and i had been using them to charge my Zenn over the past 3 years.

    my statement. interesting that on my Leaf up to feb 2, i had used 200.68 KWH. as you can see there is a 200 KWH difference from last year to this year. keep in mind that i only got my Leaf on the 18th of Jan so only half a month.

    now last year, i was doing the 3 month test of the 2010 Prius grill blocking so the Zenn was not being used much at the time so it would not have contributed to usage.
