Are you guys testing ASL while driving at highway speeds???? I can easily hear a difference while driving.

I can't hear any difference using ASL on my Toyota JBL radio either. I assume that sound level sensitivity is only as good as your ears are able to process 20+20,000 db ranges. For example, if the auto adjustment is at the low db level, and your ears can't process that low, then you won't notice the adjustment. Just an idea short of believing Toyota's ASL is worthless.

    Happy Motoring,

    Tom

I no longer use ASL anyway because i feel that it does add some extra juices to the frequencies that are not on the original recording. My setting on my JBL is pretty basic...+1 on treble, mid, and bass.

In my '11 Three I turned it on and off on the freeway this morning and barely heard any difference in volume. Mine, non-nav, only has on and off, and the on must be equivalent to the '1' setting on higher models.

There are 2 levels plus "off" here in the eu (incl. navigation).

Before i got the JBL installed, i couldn't really hear a difference, even in "normal" mode.
But now it works really fine, its now set to "minimum". One doesn't get JBL here as a standard feature, you can only have it let installed once you've got the car. Cost me € 1390,- at the toyota dealer. The featured subwoofer in the trunk is great... ;)

In the 2006 Prius i had the original JBL and couldn't hear any ASL difference either...

Count me in on this one! My one month old 2010 Prius III JBL system has the same problem ... with the ASL "On", the volume does not change with road noise. I had this feature on other cars, and am very disappointed with Toyota on this issue. I had thought JBL was a good name in audio!

The ASL on my wife's budget Yaris works perfect.

If the apparent volume doesn't change with road noise, then the system is likely working perfectly! If the apparent volume diminishes at speed, then ASL is off or not working. That's how most cars are, which is why they implemented ASL.

There sound system sounds the exactly the same when switching ASL on then off. I've pulled over to turn it off/on just to test this. My wife's ASL does work.

I have the same issue. In my ex Honda Fit I could notice clearly how the sound was getting louder when the speed was getting faster.

It works but it works poorly. The harmon-kardon in the wife's cube is much better as are the steering wheel controls.

In my 2008, I definitely notice it on high, as it's too much boost, low setting is about "neutral", where you don't notice it boosting, but you don't feel compelled to turn up the volume at speed either. You do notice it if you happen to make a fast stop however, as it seems to lag a bit.

The volume leveler on the Navi unit/JBL doesn't do squat for me - my old Civic Hybrid had a much better radio in all respects, at it was a "standard" unit.
