I live in OC, California and I work in north San Diego. On the drive along Camp Pendleton and through San Clemente, I have seen numerous brand new, testing, and even the covered-up/disguised prototypes.

Yesterday, I saw a new Scion tc (the rear tail lights are different, the rest of the car seems the same for the most part). It had new car dealer cardboard inserts from Toyota Carlsbad, so it appeared to be a recently sold car.

Today, I saw what appeared to a new Toyota Corolla, completely different looking (heck, was it a custom mod that an individual made from a Kia with Toyota emblems? or is the Corolla styled different in different countries, and perhaps it was imported?). The oddity is that it already had regular California license plates on it. The styling did NOT look new/evolutionary, but the shape of the car did look like nothing I've seen before (nothing futuristic, but rather plain looking and a step backward). It had Toyota logo emblems and an emblem that had COROLLA spelled out. All emblems were silver. I did not have a chance to get a photo of either car. The Scion tc did look like a brand new, next-gen car though.

I saw the new tC today. First time too. It looks bad. The back looks like a small Dodge Charger. Like most car models, I like the previous design better.

Here's the new Corolla. To me it looks like a Chevy Malibu. Just god awful:

At least there's still the Prius, and Lexus.

The Corolla has been updated for 2011

    • New grille and front bumper
    • new rear bumper
    • new taillight combination
    • new chrome rear lrunklid trim
    • new steering wheel with steering wheel audio/bluetooth controls (LE)
    • Updated audio headunit w/ VFD (optional)
    • new fabric designs
    • new alloy designs
    • For Canada, heated seats available on cloth LE models

They could easily have went with rectangular reverse lights instead of sticking with the ugly round ones. It would've made it a tad more appealing IMO. Right now, it looks like a cheap set of taillights someone got off ebay (particularly the chrome ring around the tail/brake light)

Yeah this means nothing to me. Id like to see an option for HID headlights and a V6. Their "updates" are just beating around the bush. I can't have this. It makes me look bad. Yeah I'm harsh, but playas dont mess arounnnn...you know what ah mean?

Well it's a midlife update, not a full redesign. That'll come around 2014.

When was their last redesign? I remember hearing something about 2008. I swear the Corolla has looked the same for the past 15 years.

    I'm in agreement with you.
Every once in a while an automaker takes something that looks great and redesigns it and destroys it - it looks bad. This is a perfect example. I expect the sales volume to plummet on this car.

Yeah, that's what I saw. Thanks for posting the photos.
With the Corolla, instead of going forward into the future, it looks like they went backward. I'll bet people are flocking to the dealers to buy up all of the 2011s before they are all gone. If I wasn't waiting for the PHEV Prius, I would be one of those people. I have no doubts. I'd be at the dealer right now.

Sion TC looks nice. I like it. Whereas the Corolla looks similar. Not so exicted.

I think my G2 Prius looks great, and I like the G3 too. So with that in mind I'll say the Scion is certainly OK, while the Corolla is not to my taste. No idea how that plays with the actual buying public of those cars.

V6 in a corolla? Don't hold your breath!

esp. if Japan keeps all the goodies to themselves. There's the Toyota Blade, based on the Auris (Corolla hatchback) that has the 3.5 litre V6 in it.

2009 MY was the last redesign.

New '11 Scion tC is not bad, but I so cannot drive that car ...

the roof is too low, my head hits it. Seat panned all the way down, seatback reasonable, it's a no go.

Too bad, they could have raised the roof on the car a bit, as it appears to have a little bit too much chop top look to it. The glass sunroof doesn't help either.

But my coupe has a sunroof and I've got a couple inches of headroom.

tC has decent rear seat room and a liftback, so it's got some usefulness too.

    25 ish MPG though.
